My Thoughts about ‘Day Tripper'

Another ‘Book Club’ review- Sharing my thoughts about this graphic novel

Things are getting more fun and interesting in this community, which is called the ’Book Club’- one of the new categories in Vocal Media. First things first, I love graphic novels. I know I have such a unique taste different from others depending on whatever I like. My first challenge for the Book Club category was a little tricky with only between 300 or more words. At least I did my best. It's okay that I'm still trying.

Now for the second piece, I'm looking forward to writing and sharing another book that blows me visually. It's called ‘Day Tripper.’ It was created in 2010 by the twin brothers who were both comic artists from Brazil named Fabio Moon and Gabriel Ba.

For starters, It was months ago in early 2023. I had a curious question for Ryan Colt Levy at the interview with Alicyn Packard from her channel called Alicyn’s Wonderland. My question was finally answered minutes before the end of the show(Instagram Live). Mine was ‘What was the most inspirational graphic novel you ever read?” I was really curious, but excited about what it is.

Ryan finally answered ‘Day Tripper’. He’s a huge fan of this novel and so it's the two artists.

By the time I got my copy, I was thrilled. When I read it the first time, I was blown away, like ‘Wow!’ The story and art were breathtaking. Every time I read as much as I can—I read at least six times so far. I agree with people from Twitter who highly recommend this graphic novel that it's all about exploring the themes of inspiration, dreams, life, death, love, loss, family, and friendship. It was about the protagonist named Bras, a writer, and a dreamer, but each chapter(ten chapters total) shows an alternate time with a different age and different causes of death along with his loved ones, including his best friend, his mother, his wife, and his son.

It may be a content warning for some viewers about death. I know it's a very complicated topic. I know it can be very hard that death is part of life. For this reason, I grew up in my family’s interests in medicine, nursing, health, & forensic science/pathology for decades. If you have a question, you would say—’ What is forensic pathology?’ It’s a pathology that examines and investigates the body about what was the cause of death including poison, accidents, and illnesses, and how it happened. Of course, you’re maybe familiar with some shows like ‘Forensic Files’ and ‘Quincy, M.E.’ You’ll see…

Back to “Day Tripper’———-

Each of the chapters shows Bras and his life at age 32 to 21 to 28 to 41 to 11 to 33 to 38 to 47 to 76.

My favorite one I ever read is The Dream on Chapter Nine, pages 203 to 225. It was the most beautiful thing in these images of each moment when Bras awakes and then goes to a different event and to the next to another. It can be mysterious when his close ones tell him to live his life, and make a decision instead of running away but still have a choice while dreaming.

One of my favorites is like a poem—— ‘In my dreams, I am the writer of my own story, although I never write about myself, this obituary being the first and last exception. All the places my dreams take me, no matter if I've never been there or never will be… help me understand where I come from…and where I want to go. So what my dreams show me is what my life can be once I open my eyes. My dreams tell me who I am. My name is Bras de Olivia Domingos. This is the story of my life. Take a deep breath, open your eyes, and close the book.’

It's beautiful! I love this!

Thank you again, Fabio Moon and Gabriel Ba for creating this beautiful piece of work.

Thank you again, Ryan and Alicyn for recommending this novel.

I highly recommend it.
