Kings Of Paradise
The Book have three main character Ruka, Kale and Dala. Ruka is a deformed child of the witch and want to take a revenge on society that kill his mother. Do whatever it takes to survive he become a cannibal early on and become on of the most sympathetic character at the end.
Kale is a prince of an island paradise and a spoiled brat but has potential to be more. Dala is a rare female grimdark protagonist that is born a poor victim but decides to do whatever it takes to escape the life she’s leaving behind. The novel authentic as well as far more multi-cultural in its world.
Ruka's arc story is one of the most depressing you will ever read. It is harsh, bitter and full of cynicism from beginning to end. He is a great grimdark protagonist because he is a monster yet faced against society of hypocrite. The storyline basically just like Naruto when he was a kid but this one more brutal than Naruto. He has a good relationship with his mother.
Dala, a young woman master the politic and being ruthless as a man in her position is not normally how these stories goes. Dala becomes a truly vicious and still sympathetic character that would be a villain in most other stories.
The morality display by our hero is a brutal pragmatism. Ruka is a someone has a bigger goals and willing to do anything to achieve them. Same goes to Dala. Kale is quite a different. Never bothered to question anything about the world untill it turns against him. Then Kale is force to learn about other cultures and question if anything he grew up believing is right.
The world of Ash and Sand is incredibly well developed one with intricate cultures, supporting character, as well as allusions to a wider world we only touch upon. It is cynical, dark, and yet fully realized world that I believe you will like if you are into grimdark series.
