Everyone in My Family Has Killed Someone
Or have they?

You know the saying, you can't judge a book by it's cover? Well this one lives up to that for sure and then some. I am not sure what I was expecting with this, but based on the the title it wasn't what I got. Not in a bad way though. I mean I must admit I did not read the little insert as to what the book was really about, the name in itself was one where I just said, "You're going in my basket."
There are a few books that really make me do that, and usually it is the true crime ones that have murder or something similar in the title.
What I thought was going to be a section of the book talking about what each member of the family did to earn the books title was only half of what I got. On top of that, though done in a different way, I got a thrilling story with murder involved and twists that I did not see coming.
You started off with a family reunion gone wrong, with one being the outcast of the family that no one really liked, the black sheep. But slowly, it was beginning to look like everyone in that family was a black sheep. No one really was telling the truth about their lives to others and there were so many secrets that everyone held onto. Which makes sense from a family dynamic honestly.
But then you realize that everything this story is about is uncovering a cover up that cost the family dynamic to split as heavily as it did. Leading to the reader being shown that you can't always believe what you read for face value. In this book, things were not what they seemed as the guilty and innocent in this story were all walking a pretty fine line.
The ending of the book is what really draws you in, I know how original considering 99% of books are like that. But what I mean is you get one explanation and puzzle piece after another until everything eventually all clicks together and you get the full picture.
For a new thriller, this is probably one of the better ones that I have read recently, as lately the others I have read I must admit, I am able to see or guess the twist before I get to it. This one though was very original in it's ideas and with that in how it went about with the twists at the end. A few are quite predictable but they then lead to ones that are not at all and that make you go, "Oh!".
I must say this however, with no spoilers, but if you read the book you will understand, the title is a lie as it would seem that not everyone in that family has technically killed someone depending on how you view someone's life.
This has given me very high hopes for the next book written by this author which I am assuming is following the same sort of format which is "Everyone on this train is a suspect". As with all thriller/mystery authors, I am hoping that he can keep his formula but not make things obvious. I find that with some, once they get the format down, it is very much rinse and repeat and in reading multiple of the books, you know what to look for and where the twists are already hidden.
Here is hoping that everyone on that train is really the suspect and nothing is revealed without a twist or two.
