Book Review: Mindset
Mindset: The New Psychology of Success by Carol S. DWECK

Reading Mindset by Dr. Carol S. Dweck was one of the most valuable and enriching experiences I’ve ever had. This book challenged me to reflect, learn, and grow in ways I didn’t expect. At just 15 years old, I initially doubted whether I could grasp concepts about psychology and business, but Dweck’s clear, engaging writing proved that age is no barrier to understanding; only mindset is. With 301 pages in my edition, the book blends self-help, psychology, and business into a compelling guide for personal transformation.
What stood out most was Dweck’s breakdown of the fixed vs. growth mindset. The idea that abilities aren’t set in stone; but can be developed through effort, strategy, and resilience, completely shifted my perspective. I loved the real-world examples, from athletes like Michael Jordan (who embraced failure as fuel and never sees himself as “prefect”) to CEOs who rebuilt companies by fostering growth-minded teams. As someone who once thought business was "boring," I was surprised by how gripping these stories were! The book also taught me that imperfections aren’t limits; they’re opportunities to learn. Now, when I face challenges, I ask, "What can this teach me?" instead of thinking, "I’m just not good at this."
Beyond theory, Mindset gave me practical tools. I’ve started sharing pages with friends and plan to write articles about concepts like the "power of yet", “the danger of praise and positive labels” and “the false growth mindset”. The sections on sports psychology were especially eye-opening: I never realized how much an athlete’s success hinges on their mindset, not just talent. And while the book acknowledges that adopting a growth mindset takes work, it’s deeply empowering to know that progress is always possible.
I’d give Mindset a 5/5 : it’s rare to find a book this impactful. Critics might argue some examples are repetitive, but I found the repetition reinforced key ideas. I’d recommend it to everyone, because no one is "done" growing. Whether you’re a student, artist, entrepreneur, teacher or parent, Mindset will help you see challenges, and yourself, differently.
Final Thought: This book didn’t just teach me about psychology; it made me excited to learn, fail, and try again. As Dweck writes, "Becoming is better than being", and Mindset is the perfect roadmap for that journey.
“The value of this book extends way beyond the world of education. It’s just as relevant for business people who want to cultivate talent and for parents who want to raise their kids to thrive on challenge” Bill GATES
