Books recommended by Andrew Huberman
Andrew Huberman is an American neuroscientist and a professor of neurobiology at Stanford University School of Medicine. He’s host to the number-one health podcast in the world, Huberman Lab.
I feel like I have a lot of things in common with Andrew Huberman, especially our love for reading. However, he’s a hell of a lot more intelligent than I am, that’s for sure!
So without further ado, here are 3 Incredible Books Recommended by Andrew Huberman…
Breath by James Nestor
In Breath award-winning journalist, James Nestor travels around the world to research and study the art of breathing, something which over recent years we have forgotten how to do.
Everyone knows the importance of breathing, but do you know how to breathe properly? I thought I did, but after I read Breath it made me realise how wrongly I’d been doing it, and you probably are too! And I didn’t know the bonkers physical consequences we suffer from if we don’t breathe properly such as facial abnormalities, dental problems, low oxygen concentration in the blood, and so much more.
Breath is one of the best books I’ve read so far this year. I’m sure you’ll love it just as much as I did!
Here are a few quotes from Breath…
“The greatest indicator of life span wasn’t genetics, diet, or the amount of daily exercise, as many had suspected. It was lung capacity.”
“The fix is easy: breathe less. But that’s harder than it sounds. We’ve become conditioned to breathe too much, just as we’ve been conditioned to eat too much. With some effort and training, however, breathing less can become an unconscious habit.”
“Each breath we draw in should take about three seconds, and each breath out should take four. We’ll then continue the same short inhales while lengthening the exhales to a five, six, and seven count as the run progresses.”

Mastery by Robert Greene
Mastery is written by one of my favourite authors and seven-time international best-seller, the one and only, Robert Greene.
In Mastery, Greene explores the journey and what it takes to become a ‘master’ in any field. By analysing the lives of some of the greatest and most successful people of all time such as Albert Einstein, Charles Darwin, and Leonardo da Vinci, Greene details the crucial elements required to achieve the level of Mastery.
I’ve read Mastery several times, I’d rank it as one of my favourite books. It’s incredibly engaging and intriguing. The way Greene debunks the many myths about genius and ‘mastery’ is nothing short of masterful!
If you want to unlock your hidden passion and become a ‘master’ in your field, Mastery is the perfect book for you!
Here are a few quotes from Mastery…
“There are two kinds of failure. The first comes from never trying out your ideas because you are afraid, or because you are waiting for the perfect time. This kind of failure you can never learn from, and such timidity will destroy you. The second kind comes from a bold and venturesome spirit. If you fail in this way, the hit that you take to your reputation is greatly outweighed by what you learn. Repeated failure will toughen your spirit and show you with absolute clarity how things must be done.”
“The future belongs to those who learn more skills and combine them in creative ways.”
“People around you, constantly under the pull of their emotions, change their ideas by the day or by the hour, depending on their mood. You must never assume that what people say or do in a particular moment is a statement of their permanent desires.”

Finding Ultra by Rich Roll
Finding Ultra by Rich Roll is one of the most inspiring memoirs you could ever wish to read.
At 40 years old, Rich was in bad shape. He was stressed, overweight, and even struggled with simply walking up the stairs. But fast forward a few months Rich transformed himself into one of the best, most respected, and renowned endurance athletes on the planet.
Rich is a savage, his story is incredible and I’m not surprised in the slightest that Andrew Huberman has Finding Ultra in his reading recommendations. After you’ve finished reading the book, you can’t help but feel like you want to go out on a run and get after it!
I guarantee you’ll love it just as much as me and Andrew Huberman!
Here are a few quotes from Finding Ultra…
“When the mind is controlled and spirit aligned with purpose, the body is capable of so much more than we realize.”
“You can stand in the light. And you can set a positive example. But you simply cannot make someone change.”
“The prize never goes to the fastest guy,” Chris replied. “It goes to the guy who slows down the least.” True in endurance sports. And possibly even truer in life.”
