Wondering If You Should Go For That Hairstyle?
Don't ask others for their opinion in the process.

The ways we choose to express ourselves can take many forms- like our clothing choices, groups we're a part of, the aesthetic of our instagram, etc. A hairstyle is just one example of an expressive outlet.
Truth be told, I've had many hairstyles and hair colors over the years once I was allowed more freedom with it. Each time, I found myself asking someone else for their opinion and each time, I found myself swaying on my decision. I swayed between confidence in my choice, doubt, another hairstyle completely, or somewhere in between.
Considering how many times I've experienced this, you'd think I would have learned an important lesson sooner. The lesson is: Our individual avenues of expression are sacred.
Now, of course there are times where we need a bit of a confidence boost to go ahead and truly express ourselves, which is completely valid and understandable! However, asking another person for their opinion doesn't always create a validating and confident-boosting experience, unfortunately.
My personal recommendation is to explore the decision in ways that help you make the decision for sure. Look at pictures of others with that haircut, hold something of the color you're looking to switch to up to your head, watch a youtube video of pros and cons to a type of hair, whatever you need to do!
If you found this article in search of validation about a change in your hair- well, here it comes... Any way you think you would feel better about yourself, and more true to who you are, go for it. If that neon hair dye screams your name, it's probably meant for you. If the easier routine of short hair seems like it would be beneficial, it probably would be.
Also, please educate yourself best as possible so you use the healthiest methods of changing your hair, because over-bleaching and over-dying will damage it. If you cut it yourself, watch a quick tutorial (unless of course you're a hair dresser and know how to).
Most importantly, if you ask someone for their opinion about a possible change in your hairstyle, and their opinion disappoints you, don't let it hold you back from being yourself.
Self-expression is one of the most fun aspects of being human, so feel free to embrace it. This applies to more than hairstyles, too, but we'll start there for now.
Til next time... Much love and support to you, fellow human!
