Boosting your mood by getting 'glam' at home!
Now that the UK's roadmap out of lockdown has been revealed, the end really does seem to be in sight. Many of us are already fantasising about the first outfit and high heel wedges that we're going to wear on the 21st June when (if all goes to plan) restrictions will be lifted. Until that point, however, there are still plenty of reasons to get glammed up at home. From committing to your skincare routine to dressing up for themed Zoom parties (the perfect excuse for an iconic 90s denim on denim outfit), looking after yourself can make the world of difference to your wellbeing and sense of self.

Finding Self-Empowerment Through Beauty During the Pandemic
Establishing a beauty routine, putting on makeup, and selecting that perfect outfit that is sure to impress others – it's been a while since beauty has taken such a performative nature. Despite this, many of us have found our beauty regimes to be more important than ever this year, and beauty has evolved into a tool of self-empowerment.

Lashes for Days
Okay, guys, see that photo above? It's of a picture that I took of my 5 year old little boy who had just picked me a tiny bouquet of garden flowers and leaned in to give them a sniff. However, when I first looked at the photo, I saw what I do everyday when I look into his big beautiful eyes...those LASHES! Ugh, why do the boys always get, naturally, what we women try so hard to achieve through so many different means, be it false eyelash application, lash extensions, and trying an egregious amount of mascaras out on the market to try to even come anywhere close? Well, I feel like I found the golden ticket and because I am not one to keep beauty secrets or any secrets really, being that I am a writer and I tend to use what I find in my everyday life in my stories in some way, shape, and form, I want to share this this little needle in the haystack of beauty secrets with you.

My Slow Embrace with Online Shopping
I was a seriously late bloomer when it came to online shopping. Even before being adopted by the masses I had a nagging hesitancy that began with an image of imaginary people inside my computer waiting to steal my information. Once I comfortably convinced myself it was safe I made my first online purchase which resulted in my first online return. My distain for doing things more than once helped further wain my enthusiasm for online shopping - not to mention the added benefits of printing return labels, packing boxes and visits to the post office. I happily returned to brick and mortar stores where I could touch, feel and thoroughly evaluate items before purchasing, once. Then a pandemic hit, my toilet paper ran out I was literally forced to reconsider the benefits of online shopping. Slowly but surely and one purchase at a time I became more comfortable shopping online and ultimately came to appreciate the conveniences. I am proud to say that I have come full circle within one year. Although I only order from large, well known websites and the list of things I will not order online is long, I can honestly say I am comfortable shopping online. Given my complicated history with online shopping the number of times social media has been powerful enough to sway my behavior or spark a purchase for something I did not need has been extremely rare.

Brilliant, Bold, and Unapologetically Beautiful. Top Story - March 2021.
We as humans all seek validation from other humans (whether we want to admit it or not), and feeling beautiful is one of those things that's hard to accomplish without it. One of my favorite quotes from actress Emma Stone is "I can't think of any better representation of beauty than someone who is unafraid to be herself." So in that spirit, I want to highlight a fearless, innovative black woman who has taken the beauty world by storm: Melissa R. Butler, founder and CEO of The Lip Bar.

The Eyes Have It
The World of beauty is one that is full of history. Eye make-up can be traced all the way to the days of Egypt where Kohl was created to make lines above the eyes to decorate the royals. In the Egyptian way, this use of makeup was a way to emulate the gods. In fact, if you look at any of the depictions of gods and goddesses of Egypt you will see the modern cat-eye look across all the olden depictions. It isn’t just Kohl that has been shown across the centuries in the world of makeup.
