Life is not forever, Love is
“Take your messed up face somewhere else!” this stranger yelled before they slammed their door on me. This is actually the harshest experience I’ve ever had that I can remember involving my port wine stain birthmark on my cheek. Not so bad, right? I think the reason I was particularly sensitive in this instance was because I was canvassing for a non profit I really put my heart into for over a year. So there were other completely non related reasons I was hurt over this person’s reaction anyways. You could say the reasons this instance affected me had nothing to do with anything only skin deep.

Get a Tat? Good idea???
I don't have a tattoo. I've never really wanted a tattoo. I've considered the pros and cons, the merits involved, and I've pondered if having one would somehow prove a personal point or change me in some way. So, I have been deliberate in my decision. And please know that my choice to not have one was not predicated on any fear or bigotry about them or the people that have chosen differently than I did.

A Tattoo Tale:
I adore telling stories, and my tattoos will tell you about my very own. Folks say your body is your temple, I just choose to paint the walls. When I view myself in the mirror I see the tattoos that I have and the one I have yet to get. The tattoo process was always just uncovering what is already there, revealing my chosen birthmarks. I believe I have gotten a tattoo or piercing yearly since my first tattoo as a promise to keep investing in myself so I don't forget about me. Let's go on a tour through time, we'll start at the beginning as tradition goes.

My experience with skincare
Growing up, I was never a skin-fanatic and had little to no interest in exploring different skincare products and what worked for my specific skin type, which is dry, sensitive skin. I only started introducing skincare products probably when I started sixth form, and that was only a basic facial wash by the brand Simple. But it worked for me: my skin was dull but clear so I had no reason to complain or look for an alternative product. However, as I got older and become more conscious about my looks, especially after I started my first year at university, I started to become more interested in skincare. One of my first purchases was Argon oil which you apply to your face, which made my skin feel good and healthy, but after the bottle broke mid-semester I quickly forgot about this product and only relied on facial wash in the morning and evening to keep my skin clear. This worked. Recently, I went to the bottom of my snap memories and found pictures and videos of myself without any snap fillers and experienced this awful internal pain when I realised how nice my skin was. This quarantine I had convinced myself that my skin needed repair due to the fact that I had one or two pimples/ spots on my forehead, which someone close to me thought it was appropriate to point out every single time we video called each other. So I started to watch videos by skincare by Hyram on what products would help to improve my skin and wasted my hard-earned money on products I didn’t need.

If my tattoos could talk
So I started to get tattoos when I was in my twenties. I have three and want more. My first one is a infinity symbol with the word love incorporated on one of the loops and the cross in the other loop. At the time I was more religious than I am now. At the time it represented the faith I held so dear. Now it represents the faith I still believe in but also my journey. I'm now more spiritual. I got in on my right foot. It didn't really hurt, it was more just annoying when she went back over it. It literally took five minutes once I was in the chair and she started the needle.

They choose you!
At times you may feel that you have the power to choose your tattoo; and the for the most part you are correct, however in my case 3 out 4 of my tattoos chose me. Yes, you read that correctly, my tattoos chose me. The 3 tattoos I am referring, to are a tribal peacocks feather, a tribal black widow, and a wolf in a dreamcatcher. It’s always that adrenaline rush when you’re about to get new ink. It’s EXHILIRATING! Let me take it back to when I got my peacocks feather. It was something about feathers that was trending at the time, and of course I felt the need to follow suit, but I felt the need to be original. Feathers can be very dainty and elegant, which is fine, but I wanted something a little more edgy. I figured hey let’s get something tribal, very minimal not to flashy. Saw the perfect image on google and knew right away that was it. Now where I got my tattoo, was the inside of someone’s garage. Now before you judge, it was quite sanitary okay! He used fresh needles and I felt confident that he knew what he was doing. Now it had been about 3-4 years since I had a tattoo, and this would be considered my 2nd tattoo so I was nervous. Needless to say, my tattoo turned out great.
