Everything You Need To About Sunscreen!
Don't forget to apply your sunscreen, want to know why? Read this!
Sunscreen, also called as sunblock or sun cream is a most important product for our skin and is non negotiable step in every skincare routine and I would recommend to start using sunscreen when you enter your teenage years because we all don't want our skin to go bad.
Why do we need a sunscreen?
Sunscreen is very important product to protect our beautiful skin, It protects our skin from harmful sun's ultravoilet rays that can heavily damage our skin. There are two types of UV rays that can cause damage to our skin: UVA rays are mainly linked to long term skin damage like wrinkles and it can increase the risk of skin cancer. UVB rays slightly have more energy than UVA rays they can damage our DNA cells as they are in direct contact with sun. And they can cause major sunburns, And UVB rays can als0 cause skin cancer.
How many types of sunscreen are there?
There are two types of sunscreen: Physical and Chemical sunscreen. Physical sunscreen sits on the top of the skin and reflects the UV rays, The minerals titanium dioxide and zinc oxide are the main active ingredients in physical sunscreen. And chemical sunscreen absorbs into our skin and then it absorbs the UV rays and then converts the rays into heat and releases it from our body. The active ingredients in chemical sunscreens include avobenzone, octinoxate and oxybenzone.
How to find a perfect sunscreen?
Finding a perfect sunscreen can become a little overwhelming as there are so many types of sunscreen in the market, However here are some tips I can give you on the basis of my research.
Tip No. 1 - Know your skin type and choose your sunscreen according to that, If you have dry skin choose a sunscreen that have hydrating properties in it as it is very important use hydrating properties on beings who have dry skin. For people who have oily skin and acne prone skin get a sunscreen that are noncomedogenic or non-acnegenic and if a product you see claims that it is noncomedogenic it is less likely to clog your pores. And those who have combination skin look for gel based sunscreen that are oil free. And for sensitive skin choose fragrance free and hypoallergenic sunscreen
Tip No. 2 - Choose a broad spectrum sunscreen that'll protect you from UVA and UVB sunscreen both
Tip No. 3 - Do a patch test before buying the sunscreen, It is very important to do a patch test before buying otherwise it can damage your skin.
There various consistency of sunscreen that are available in the market like: Gel sunscreen, Spray sunscreen, Stick sunscreen and a Cream like sunscreen.
When should I apply sunscreen?
It is recommended that sunscreen should be applied 15-20 minutes before stepping outside because it takes atleast 15 minutes to absorb in our skin, if you will apply the sunscreen and don't wait before stepping out there are high chances you can get a sunburn.
Why should I wear a sunscreen everyday?
Sunscreen should be applied daily because it can prevent skin cancer, sunburns, premature aging and it can help you to not get tanned.
Do I have to reapply my sunscreen?
Yes, you have to reapply your sunscreen every 2 hours especially if you're going to swim or you sweat to much but if you're not stepping outside you don't really need a second application.
Lastly here are some of my sunscreen recommendations that are available worldwide.
