I've been interred by the idea of the playlist for some time now. I catch myself spending what seems like hours making them on Spotify, I get a whole variety of mixes of different genres and moods on my YouTube home feed. The playlist is something that's been with us for some time now ever since the cassette people made mixes of their favorite songs by recording them over on the original album releases or whenever it came on the radio, the moment people had control over it they took advantage of it. the mixes people would make out of these cassettes would be just as varied and mood centric as they are now, that's probably why a lot of the more vibey mixes on YouTube like to use anime form the 80s and 90s to help carry that feeling that can longer exist in its true form.
YouTube mixes are weird in a lot of them you can find people using the comments as a place to vent and share emotions you can see that on some videos as well on the extend versions of the
Donkey Kong country 2 soundtrack, but they also exist on a lot of these mixes, what a weird thing animosity and music can do. these mixes are also a great way to help people get into and find genres of music, a lot of people are not educated on where and how to find new music (i use bandcamp and spotify). Sometime last year think maybe a bit longer I was looking a math rock mix on YouTube because i want to listen to some but i didn't know what band i was feeling so a mix was the best solution, I had found the instrumental math rock mix the one with the drawing of a funny cat on a yellow background and it was perfect for what i was looking for, but down in the comments I noticed that some people who came across it didn't even know what math rock was they had discovered a genre that they would otherwise not be exposed too before.
Spotify most noticeable feature is its playlist that may sound weird but it's true the playlist made on there are some of the most shared and most used Spotify also makes its super easy to make playlist and if you give it a common name it will actually give you some suggestions some that's popular among other users and some based off your own listening. This is where i make most of my playlists and I make a lot I have some based on genres i really like and some based on feelings, it's just so addicting to make them and listen to them especially when you make a mood list and that's how you feel at the moment.
There's this weird myth like status around playlists and mixes that are different to different people you'll see people in the comments who see us meeting in this virtual space as some sort of fate that we are more alike from this one meeting even if we haven't actually met and this comment is 7 years old. One of my things ever is Toradora a romance anime and one of my favorite little things in it is the male lead Ryuji has a whole box full of CDs that are mixes that he dreams of playing when he's with the girl he likes.
The playlist has a sort of romantic air too it doesn't it if someone likes your playlist is means a lot for some reason and some people have hidden list that they will only play alone or around people they trust the playlist is sure weird thing and I have no clue how to end this so hers some of my favorite on YouTube
