The Fight Between AI Music and the Human Soulful Sound: Carole and Tuesday
Carole and Tuesday Anime Review: Spoiler-Free

This anime has been on my Netflix list for years. It looked cute but I didn’t know if it was worth watching. After watching nonstop horror for October I decided I needed to watch something happy and decided to give Carole and Tuesday a try. Since I am writing this it is safe to assume I was not disappointed. Let’s talk about the future of music and why AI will never be able to replace the human soul.

Carole and Tuesday
Storyline: Fifty years have passed since mankind began migrating to the new frontier: Mars. It’s an age where most culture is produced by AI, and people are content to be passive consumers. A girl is scraping a living in the metropolis of Alba City, she’s working part-time while trying to become a musician. She’s always felt like something is missing. Her name is Carole. There’s another girl. Born to a wealthy family in the provincial town of Herschel City, she dreams of becoming a musician, but nobody around her understands. She feels like the loneliest person in the world. Her name is Tuesday. A chance meeting brings them together.
Info: 24 episodes
Genre: Drama, Music
Rated: TV-MA

This was an extremely creative and yet relatable storyline. Let’s start by talking about AI in the music industry. In the future, all music will be created by AI, from the tunes to the vocals and even the lyrics. Artists would pay AI creators to make their music and then perform it. I feel as if this is where the music industry wants to go. I think AI is an incredible tool, however, it will never be able to replace the heart of music. The chills you feel when you hear a song are because of the human soul that was poured into it. We see Carole & Tuesday create music from their life experiences, they were able to create a whole song from them doing laundry at the laundry mat. They shocked Mars with their ability to work hard writing their music and pouring their hearts out every time they performed.
Do you think AI will take of the music industry? Or do you think it will never be able to replace human creation? I’d be very curious to hear your thoughts in the comments below.

For this being such a cute show they hit on some deep topics. Tuesday is a presidential candidate's daughter. AI is running her campaign, proving to work because she is winning the race. We don’t know exactly what happened on Earth that made people leave for Mars, but her mother wants to start mass deportation of people who came illegally to Mars. Some singers we meet are arrested for the songs they are putting out on this topic. Freedom of speech is being publicly taken away, causing others to remain quiet in fear. The show reminded me to be aware of the people running the show, Even though we are at the end of an election know that you aren’t just voting for a president. They have teams of people making them look their best and teams of people that will help them once they are elected. Do your research and know who you are voting for and what they will do once elected.
The end song brought me to tears. It was such an impactful and daring way to bring to light this problem.

One of the main characters Angela is a childhood actor who is now going into the music industry. She had money, connections, managers, and an AI genius to make her rank top of the charts. We see Carole and Tuesday go toe to toe with Angela and not get discouraged by their disadvantages. They didn’t use any excuses and put in the work to make their dream come true.
We see Angela lose everything and realize that she hasn’t been chasing her dream, she has just been a money-making puppet. Carole and Tuesday pull her back up and remind her of her dreams.
We see so many children in the entertainment industry fall to their rock bottom. This puts a lot of perspective on why that happens and even though they are in the spotlight they are still just people.
Along with Angela, we see another famous musician in the show lose all of his wealth because he was careless. We see him pick himself back up and remember why he started music in the first place. I know people say money causes people to be evil but I don’t believe that is true. Money is just a tool, Give money to a bad person and they will do bad things, yet we give money to a good person and they will do lots of good with it. But we don’t know what person we are until we have money, and we are even more put to the test if we lose that money. This is the perfect example of that. We see him reset his life and remember what was truly important to him.

I enjoyed seeing two friends with the same dream work hard to accomplish it in a world that has rejected their dreams. The music industry is one of the most challenging industries to work in, imagine trying to compete against a world that is used to AI and robots creating what they call music. This was a wholesome and heartwarming relationship. Proving that as long as you have one person by your side anything is possible.
With an anime full of songs I enjoyed theirs the best by far. Not just because they were the main characters, but because it was the only songs without techno music and vocals. They were called boring for not using AI but I found it made their sound significantly better.

The art style was not my favorite. It was soft and bazar. It wasn’t the worst I have seen but I didn’t care for it. The pacing was slow, There is no real need to be fast-paced. If you are expecting an action-packed masterpiece this isn’t it. However, this is the perfect anime to watch if you just want to relax, if you want your mind to unwind and not be overstimulated. It was exactly what I needed after watching all of that horror anime.

Ratings:
My Review: I watch this whole show in a few days. I couldn’t get enough. What an emotional rollercoaster. I thought I was just going to be watching a cute anime about music but it ended up being so much more. The fact this show isn’t more popular is a shame. Has great music, unique characters, inspiring story, shows us where our future is headed, and the challenges of chasing our dreams. It is no shock to me this anime is highly rated, I just wish more people would take the time to watch it.

We follow everyday people as they stumble across the Straw Hat crew. I thought this was such a fascinating look into the lives of the non-pirates in this world. The inspiration and terror they face. We follow a young girl who has found inspiration through Nami. In a world of muscle and devil fruit powers, normal people are seen as less than. She sees how Nami can go on grand adventures without any special powers and finds courage through Nami’s bravery.
