The Di(e) In Indiana
Riding Your Storm
These lyrics need a country twang and steady drumbeat, jumping to a fast paced guitar with multiple harmonies.
Playfully flirty yet with a confident strength. She changed once to accommodate love and struggles with maintaining her own identity while still feeling pulled into his charms.
She knows better and is determined to remind herself that she wants more than what he offers.
*
Chorus:
Chasing your love is like
Taming a tornado
Hunting down the eye to escape all the debris
I’m all in, all try, the never di (e) in Indiana
No matter where I go
You’ll never take the Indiana out of me
*
Verse One:
Corn fields and lakes
Simpler days down by the water
Doing what it takes
Little towns and farmers daughters
Long days, late nights
Double down when things get hard or
Making it right
And knowing when to play your cards
*
Verse Two:
You blow through a town
Leaving destruction in your wake
Just look around
And see the damage you create
If you feel it, then you chase it
No regard for the expense
But you get what you’re gonna get
When you kiss a rattlesnake
*
Chorus:
Chasing your love is like
Taming a tornado
Hunting for the eye just to escape all the debris
I’m all in, all try, the never di (e) in Indiana
No matter where I go
You’ll never get being the Indiana out of me
*
Bridge:
A movie scene, sparked gasoline
More addictive than pure nicotine
Tingling my lips, you’re dangerous
Still I’m leaning in for one more kiss
*
Chorus:
Chasing your love is like
Taming a tornado
Hunting for the eye just to escape all the debris
I’m all in, all try, the never di (e) in Indiana
No matter where I go
You’ll never take the Indiana out of me
*
Verse Three:
Yeah, I admit
Small town livings not for everyone
It just won’t fit
Can’t take the full force of the sun
They need the race
And the fog to understand the view
That small town pace
Just wasn’t meant for you
*
Chorus:
Chasing your love is like
Taming a tornado
Hunting the eye, just to escape all the debris
I am all in, all try, the never di (e) in Indiana
No matter where I go
you’ll can’t take the Indiana out of me
*
Outro:
They say, there’s more than corn in Indiana
More to this life than itty bitty towns
Tractors and fields all wrapped in a farmers tan
Some long to stay while others are dying to get out
**
I wanted to play with the idea of hometown pride and confidence. Being from Indiana it was fun to dissect the word (Indiana) a bit, for the word play.
I imagined the chorus being kind of punchy and quick, revealing her wit and strength.
But still remaining subtle enough to be catchy.
Her need to chase his storm and still protect herself was the main idea. Remembering that the small town life isn’t for everyone.
**
I’m gonna add some rambling here cause I need 600 words to submit this song into beats, so hang in there.
**
she struggled with the letting go
she held on till it hurt
never letting her true feelings show
covered the bruises up with dirt
she flew just under the radar
avoiding emotional connections
like the strum of an old bass guitar
threw off anyones suspicions
that she ever really cared
about assumptions others made
she tried not to be scared
did what she needed to be saved
but she figured out that she was worthy
began to tend to her own needs
decided the question to be or not to be
gave her the key to being free

Kelli, I do believe you've found your calling <3
Small towns are so quaint and filled with history. Our roots will always beckon us back.
Yay! 600 words! Fun & sassy!
When you kiss a rattlesnake What a great line.... I'm a small town rural boy and I can relate to this song
Nice job, Kelli! I can hear the country twang. I haven't had the time to come up with something for this one, and with entries like this, it's just as well.
Well-wrought! There's more than corn in Indiana, haha! I hear that line from the cartoon crow every time.
