You’re My Kind Of Toxic

Let Me Breathe You In

Chorus:

You’re my kind of toxic baby

You’re my kind of drug

I thought that loving you could save me

From the pain I’m dying of

When I first sent that message

you replied with a thumbs up

But I misread what you meant

and my foolish heart read, love

**

Verse One:

It's some time after two

And I believe I’ve caught your feels

Baby, it's up to you

To convince me it's not real

So, tell me if I'm wrong, right now

Cause you know that I’m not fooling’

I’ve never tried to hide just how

Deep the feels you’re swimmin’ in

**

Verse Two:

Cause you're my kind of toxic, baby

Let me breathe you in

I’m changing and it’s shocking

Your hypnotic love might do me in

All I need is your permission

Baby, to catch your vibe

And ride your wave to heaven

Till then, I'm here, killin' time

**

Chorus:

You’re my kind of toxic baby

You’re my kind of drug

I thought that loving you could save me

From the pain I’m dying of

When I first sent that message

You replied with a thumbs up

But I misread what you meant

And my foolish heart read, love

❤️ 💕💌

Bridge:

Miscommunication

I’m left hanging on the phone

Caught up in frustration

Living this love alone

You can’t trust what you are seeing

You have to hear it for yourself

Sending love without the feeling

Is like vacationing in hell

**

Chorus:

You’re my kind of toxic baby

You’re my kind of drug

I thought loving you could save me

From the pain I’m dying of

When I sent that message

you replied with a thumbs up

But I misread what you meant

and my foolish heart read, love

**

Verse Three:

You only call me after hours

When the wine is wearing off

I can’t resist your super powers

Your toxic love, making me drunk

With a knife straight to my heart

If you wanted, you could save me

Your smile completes my missing parts

Please tell me that it’s me you need

*

Chorus:

Cuz you’re my kind of toxic baby

You’re my kind of drug

I thought that loving you could save me

From the pain I’m dying of

When I first sent that message

you replied with a thumbs up

But I misread what you meant

and my foolish heart read, love

*

Outro:

With you, I'm becoming someone

that I never knew before

Your kiss should make me run

but I keep comin' back for more

Your touch could blow it all to smithereens

and steal my breath from me

Like gravity pulls on a rocket-ship

it's your toxic love that sets me free

I imagined this lyric as a pop song, happily tripping over cheerful notes trying to express the real complications that come with online relationships. Delivering a potentially painful experience with a tune that makes you want to dance the hurt away.

A/N

Have you ever sent or received a text message that was misinterpreted? Good or bad, it popped up making you wonder what the true meaning behind the words were. Somehow a tone was implied or phrase was misread. Yeah, me too.

This is a real danger in our communications these days. Emotions and emojis, easily sent out into the universe with a specific message, only to be misconstrued by a few missing words or misused punctuation.

So, I wrote these lyrics to convey what happened between a couple sharing their love online.

Be careful, like drinking and driving, love and texting can be very dangerous.

    Totally nailed it

  • That they can be. As an autistic, I should know. Misreading social cues & messages is what I do best. Enjoyably painful or painfully fun? I'm not sure which describes this better.

Well-wrought! I suspect face-to-face interaction just as rife with miscommunication as text interaction, but in different ways, and with different consequences.

What a strong song for any type of relationship that one may be in during their lifetimes.

  • In 2023, I began online dating. It was disastrous. Scammers are everywhere and they made it to google chat and telegram. I will not date online again. When a guy or a girl asked me, "Where you from? Are you married with kids?" I reply, "Divorced and 75 years old. Get lost!? lol.
