(Verse 1)

I was just a girl in a bar,

caught your eye,

through the smoke of cigars

--a siren through the fog.

*

(Verse 2)

We sat and talked for hours,

and all the while,

getting you drunk on me like I'm whiskey sour.

and when the haze was gone,

you should've be left with none

--a hangover of the heartbroken, empty-pocket kind.

*

(Pre-Chorus 1)

It's the part I played before

but this time, there was something more

creeping in

*

(Chorus)

I was Scheherazade,

told you the stories that lasted a thousand nights strong.

If I told you the truth, would you run away from me?

It won't be long.

*

(Verse 3)

Every time we would kiss

another step

closer to your downfall, your abyss

--along the way, it became mine too

*

(Verse 4)

I let you undress me

my walls on the floor

and guilt became more than some word in the dictionary

so I gave it all back to you

and let myself enjoy our life from this view

--trying to ignore the storm coming in

*

(Pre-Chorus 2)

Turns out we were both thieves

there went my resolute spirit with the autumn leaves

blown away

*

(Chorus)

I was Scheherazade,

told you the stories that lasted a thousand nights strong.

If I told you the truth, would you run away from me?

It won't be long.

*

Long, long, long.

*

(Bridge)

I was raised to be nothing

but a killer and a liar.

Until I found you,

I've never felt this kind of fire.

*

It won't be long. (long, long, long)

*

Now we're back in the moonlight,

where I first said 'I love you.'

It's where I'll die tonight .

It won't be long.

*

Bang!

*

(Chorus)

You were Scheherazade,

telling me stories that lasted a thousand nights strong.

If you had told me the truth, we could have run away from here.

It won't be long.

*

Bang!

***

The story: I think this is the darkest thing I have ever written, but the sad-ending tale goes like this. An assassin/con woman, who was put on the path since birth, is given a new assignment - get her target to fall in love her, steal his wealth, and then kill him. What starts off as seduction turns into love for the assassin, and she becomes guilty because of the lies and what lies ahead for her love. As the time passing, she finds herself unable to commit her mission, feeling guilty for stealing from him and knowing killing her love would in turn "kill" her. So with her own death on the horizon, she meets up with him, under the moonlight, and tells him everything, just before her handler comes from the shadows and kills her. The story ends with her lover saying that if she had told him the truth, he would have run away with her, right before there is one more gunshot. But who died - the distressed lover or the handler? I'll let that be up to you.

In terms of the music, I'm not a musician, but I sort of imagine a mournful tone, not very fast. Once it hits the bridge, the music builds to its climax, as powerful as her feelings for her lover. Then, with the first gunshot, the music cuts out. For the last chorus, sung by her devasted lover, all you hear is a simple accompaniment (what instrument, I don't know), but something that would be soft and gentle (imagine him cradling her body close to him), yet heartbreaking).

    Congratulations to you my dear

  • Quick update: In a moment of courage, I decided to record myself (not literally myself, but my voice) singing this song. For whatever reason, though, it's not letting me add the video to the story. Fear not, for I posted it on TikTok. Here is the link: https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZP82xo7Nd/ Let me know if it works or not!

Fantastic! Love how this song told such a lyrically beautiful story, sad but beautiful

  • Great work, Alexandria. The Scheherazade by Rimsky Korsakov is my favorite classical piece. It is one I can sink into and become one with.
