When Politics Trumps Music
I have been a Pink Floyd fan since one snowy day when a neighbor introduced me to the "Dark Side of the Rainbow" effect. I was greatly amused by the effect of watching The Wizard of Oz with Dark Side of the Moon as the soundtrack; the more important thing, however, was that I instantly fell in love with the album and quickly became a major fan of Pink Floyd's music.

My Favorite Artist Pick: Blackbear
If I had to choose my favorite artist at the moment, I would have no problem telling you it is 27 year old Matthew Tyler Musto, better known as Blackbear. Granted, some of his lyrics are borderline ‘scramble for the volume when elders are present.” but overall the content of his lyrics are incredibly raw and poetic. He has no fear of expressing his feelings, which is refreshing and uses his medium to tell his own story, bit by bit.

#901Spotlight on Stu Stu Studio: Josh Stevens
If you are in Memphis Music, you have probably heard of Josh Stevens. He has been in more bands than most Memphians can name, and is always in the background trying to make the music scene better and more accessible to everyone. I met him at the infamous Buccaneer a few years back, when he played with Indeed We Digress. After that brief encounter, I had a professional falling out with one of our mutual friends, and Josh showed his true colors being there to try and smooth that out. Unlike most people in this industry, he still has a heart. He gives a shit. That is rare. He may sport green hair, have piercings, and his “work attire” is some merchandise from an up-and-coming band, but once you sit down and get him talking, you see quickly he is an innovator.

#901Spotlight HotKey Studios: Blake Heimbach
Heimbach, who was one of the original creative inhabitants of Young Avenue Sound with us as we opened up shop, is another one of the ambitious, young professionals we have grown sharing space with. His portfolio contains some of the biggest acts out of Memphis, including YoGotti, Tori WhoDat, and Grace Askew, but his passion for the business and Memphis Music community has led him to want to do something more altruistic. We love the ones who are invested in improving the overall tendency of local artists to succeed.

Americana Singer to Release Deeply Personal Sophomore Album Following Father’s Suicide
KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI—To say that Emma Jo’s sophomore album is long overdue is an understatement. She was just 15-years-old when she released her first solo record, Waiting to be Heard. More than ten years later, the folkabilly singer is back with a powerful new album packed with raw emotion, profound lyrics, and heartfelt melodies. Appropriately titled Brave, her second record is slated for an April 7th, 2018 release, and she couldn’t be more excited.

New Music: Darcy Behati
There is always controversy when an individual of creme de la creme skin tone tackles the genre of hip-hop and trap. Particularly if that individual is a pixie-esque female from the heart of London, UK. We unravel the musical moments and mementos of the momentous Darcy Behati, a digital wave sensation.

Music Projects We NEED in 2018. Top Story - February 2018.
Childish Gambino I'm not sure what name he plans to use when he puts out his new project, but if his new deal with RCA is an indicator, there is new music that is coming soon. He shook up the world with Awaken, My Love! as no one expected a funk/R&B album in 2017. It was an album that was incredibly fresh and nostalgic at the same time. I'm wondering whether his new music will be more along the lines of funk, like his last album, rap, like albums prior to this one, or something else. After the Grammys he said that he will be making his next project his last.

On top of his hectic career as a musician, he runs AeroLith production studio out of Young Avenue Sound in Memphis, TN. Unlike most 20-somethings, he works diligently, and has only recently seen some fruits of that labor.

Advised by Terrence Malick, Subramanian Swamy petitions ‘Beep Song’ to be heralded as the ‘Song of the Year’
Chennai & Beyond Terrence Malick is busy shooting his next untitled philosophical crap with an ensemble cast and a cinematographer who captures the surreal beauty of birds pooping from the sky whilst actors provide their career-best performance. A close aide working on the sets has revealed that Terrence Malick is a lazy guy and that he needs severe motivation to giddy up and direct. So, when a reporter pinned him down at a jazz club and asked what motivates him the most, he replied, “Right now, I believe the ethereal feel of ‘Beep song’ wakes me up in the morning and prolongs the day. It has a renaissance effect on modern love. I’ve always been interested in dissecting contemporary love- the way a soul of this age is easily flattered by looks and deceptions yet meanders around waiting for life to turn tables. I appreciate this joy although incomprehensible to my fornicating policies. This song is all about it. It is my second favorite piece of lyric next to "Fitz And The Tantrums – Out Of My League”.

I Dissed A Girl And I Liked It: Music Producer Joseph Kahn Supports Taylor Swift In Katy Perry Feud
Here's betting that #KatyPerry wishes she could just "Swish Swish" her magic wand and get the latest chapter in her very public debacle out the way. Perry's latest single, "Swish Swish," has once again reignited the "Bad Blood" between her and fellow pop princess #TaylorSwift. Although Perry maintains that lyrics about a "selfish sheep" are about no one person in particular, she has said that her latest song does have an anti-bullying message — possibly still a dig at Swift.
