Lion Jungle of Africa
n the year 2000, I embarked on a five-month safari to Kenya that forever transformed my understanding of humanity and delved into the profound depths of the human psyche. It was during one mesmerizing afternoon near Mount Aligalo that I stumbled upon lion prints not far from my tent. To my amazement, my guides were astonished but calmly remarked, "He is not bad, he is our lion." It was on those very plains, where humanity itself originated, that Carl Jung wrote of animals as the sacred "priests of God."

A Soundtrack To Life
If life is like a movie, then you have to have a soundtrack, right? It wouldn't make sense for life to not have a playlist of tracks that not only help spell out your life through music, but also give a sense to others about how it felt to be in that moment (or moments). This might be a playlist, but like any great one, it won't fully encapsulate what it is that its trying to evoke in terms of emotion. Nothing, and I mean nothing, will ever fully capture how life is. But, you gotta give it a try, and just like life, you gotta go with the flow. So here's the playlist (in no particular order). There's a description next to the song to show what it invoked or captured in me during those specific moments and segments in time in my life. Some of these tracks don't have lyrics, as they would be included in a film soundtrack. And, some of these songs are not in English. Like in life, sometimes you don't need to fully understand or have words to really make you feel. Here's the playlist:

Oldest Song Ever
The oldest song in the world is a matter of debate among historians and musicologists, as there are various theories and claims regarding the origins and age of music. However, based on available evidence and archaeological findings, the oldest known song that has survived to this day is the Hurrian Hymn no. 6, also known as the "Song of Seikilos."

From the Streets to the Stage: The Birth and Rise of Jazz Music
"Music is the silence between the notes," said the French musician Claude Debussy, a "silence" that expresses the dreams and desires of creators. Jazz, music without a political identity, was a protest and has always indicated the need for freedom. Its charm was not only due to its sound but also to the fact that it embodied the victory of popular culture over the culture of the few. It enabled people otherwise condemned to cultural non-existence to assert their participation in art seriously.

The Portsmouth Sinfonia
Introduction Sometime in the mid seventies, I started to appreciate classical music after being completely bored by it at school, then I heard "Mars" from "The Planets" by Gustav Holst on Alan Freeman's Saturday Afternoon Rock Show, and went out and bought the album. I knew Manfred Mann's Earthband had used a theme from "Jupiter" for their single "Joybringer" with permission from the Holst estate.

We need to talk about Yehezkal.. Top Story - April 2023.
Is classical music cool yet? I've been waiting so patiently for the last 5 years for classical music to make a return, outside of the stereotype that it belongs only to the ears of the upper class but can we talk about the work of Yehezkal Raz yet?
