Strolling Down Lovers Lane 1980s
Love songs from the 1980s

Love is a wondrous thing. There are many songs written about true love, wishing for love, unrequited love, and even heartbreak when breaking up. I want to take you through the years along Lovers Lane with popular love songs from the 1940s, 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s.
A really beautiful and romantic song “I Want to Know What Love Is” is a power ballad that was recorded by the British-American rock band Foreigner. It was released in 1984 as the lead single from their album Agent Provocateur. The song rose to number one in both the US and the UK. It became the group’s biggest hit. It was Foreigner’s first and only pop chart-topper in either country. The song has been featured in many films.
Just the awesome singing voice of Welsh singer Bonnie Tyler makes me love the song “Total Eclipse of the Heart”. It is featured on her album Faster Than the Speed of Night from 1983. The song became Tyler’s biggest hit of her career. The song topped the UK Singles chart and became the fifth best-selling single of 1983. It also topped the charts in the US and was certified Gold by the RIAA.
“Time After Time” is a song that has always been a favorite. It was recorded in 1983 by American singer and songwriter Cyndi Lauper. She co-wrote the song with Rob Hyman. It is the second single from her debut album She’s So Unusual. The song became Lauper’s first number-one hit in the US charting at the top on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It also charted on the UK Singles and ARIA Singles charts.
A lovely song “Keep On Loving You” is a rock ballad that was written by Kevin Cronin and recorded by the American rock band REO Speedwagon. It is featured on their 1980 album Hi Infidelity. The song went to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and was certified Platinum by the RIAA. It also charted on the UK Singles chart.
“The Power of Love” is a song that was co-written and originally recorded by American singer and songwriter Jennifer Rush in 1984. It went to number one on the UK Singles chart. The song was released as the fifth single from her debut album Jennifer Rush. The song has been covered by Air Supply, Laura Branigan, and one of the most popular versions by Celine Dion.
“How Am I Supposed to Live Without You” is a song that was co-written by Doug James and American singer and songwriter Michael Bolton. It was originally recorded by American singer Laura Branigan in 1983. The song went to number one on both the US and Canadian Adult Contemporary charts. It is on Branigan’s album Branigan 2. Bolton recorded his version of this song and it topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart and became a worldwide hit.
“Eternal Flame” is a song that was recorded by the American pop-rock group The Bangles. It is featured on their 1988 album Everything. The power ballad was written by group member Susanna Hoffs with the songwriting team of Billy Steinberg and Tom Kelly. The song went to number-one in both the US and the UK and other countries.
A classic and most memorable song “I Just Called to Say I Love You” is a ballad that was written and performed by American R&B singer and songwriter Stevie Wonder. I became an international hit and remains Wonder’s best-selling single to date. The song is the lead single from the 1984 soundtrack album for the film “The Woman in Red”. It was at number one on the R&B chart. The song won both a Golden Globe and an Academy Award for Original Song. It became Wonder’s only solo UK number-one hit.
