Love is a wondrous thing. There are many songs written about true love, wishing for love, unrequited love, and even heartbreak when breaking up. I want to take you through the years along Lovers Lane with popular love songs from the 1940s, 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s.

Ready to Take a Chance Again” is a wonderful romantic ballad that became an international hit single in 1978. It was written by Charles Fox and Norman Gimbel and recorded by American singer and songwriter Barry Manilow. The song became the theme song for the 1978 film “Foul Play” starring Goldie Hawn and Chevy Chase. It charted on the Billboard Hot 100 and Cash Box charts.

A beautiful love song “Laughter in the Rain” was composed by Neil Sedaka with lyrics by Phil Cody. It was recorded by American singer, songwriter, and pianist Neil Sedaka. The song made it to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and Adult Contemporary charts. It also became popular in Canada and in the UK.

If You Leave Me Now” is a song that was written and sung by bass player Peter Cetera of the American rock group Chicago. It is featured on their 1976 album Chicago X. Released as a single the song made it to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, It became the biggest hit internationally for Chicago. “If You Leave Me Now” won the Grammy Awards for Best Arrangement Accompanying Vocalists and Best Pop Vocal Performance by a Duo, Group, or Chorus. The song has been certified Gold and Platinum by the RIAA. Chicago teamed with the American Cancer Society to sing their hit with them on stage live at their concerts with proceeds going to the American Cancer Society to fight breast cancer in 2010 and the fundraising has continued in succeeding years.

When I Need You” is a song that was written by Albert Hammond and Carole Bayer Sager. It was the title track on Hammond’s 1976 album When I Need You. The song became a bit worldwide hit when it was recorded by English-Australian singer and songwriter Leo Sayer. It went to number one on the UK Singles and Billboard Hot 100 charts as well as charting on the Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks chart.

Three Times a Lady” is a song that was written by lead singer Lionel Ritchie of the American soul group the Commodores. It was produced by James Anthony Carmichael and the Commodores. It became the group’s first number-one hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and also As the song became an even bigger hit it topped the charts in Canada and the UK Singles chart.

The Air That I Breathe” is a beautiful romantic ballad that was written by the British-Gibraltarian singer and songwriter Albert Hammond and the English songwriter Mike Hazelwood. In 1972 it was recorded by Hammond and featured on his debut album It Never Rains in Southern California. The song became a major hit when it was recorded by the English rock and pop band The Hollies in 1974. It charted on the UK Singles and Billboard Hot 100 charts.

You’re My First, the Last, My Everything” is a song that was written by White, Tony Sepe, and Peter Radcliffe and recorded by American singer and songwriter Barry White. It is featured on his 1974 album Can’t Get Enough. The song charted on the Billboard Hot 100 and UK Singles charts. It was certified Gold by the RIAA and certified Silver by the BPI. The song rose to number one on the Billboard Hot Soul Singles chart.

Make It with You” is a song that was written by group member David Gates and recorded by the American pop-rock group Bread. It became a number-one hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The song is featured on the group’s 1970 album On the Waters.
