River Knight release their 1st album ‘Grow’
a recipe for a fantastic album: "2 blokes, 1 guitar. 2 voices, 6 strings...and a little bit of help from friends"

You will love these guys ... and their music!
Q: Tell us a little bit about the band “River Knight”? Who are the members?
[River]: It's just the 2 of us. Me, Stone River, on vocals, and Darren Knight on guitar and vocals. River Knight represents friendship and positivity.
[Knight]: We started writing together as River Knight a couple of years ago now. My wife sadly passed away from cancer and I was struggling. Went through a very low time with far too much self medication. I'd started writing a couple of songs as a form of therapy, Stone was coming round to support me, and we just ended up jamming.
[River]: Yeah, we finished off the song's Dazza had started and then continued to write together, and the first one of the collaborations was the song you have now.
Q: How long have you been creating music?
[Knight]: Too long HAHA
[River]: And yet, not long enough!
[Knight]: Completely. We'll never stop creating music.
Q: Do you have a preferred genre?
[River]: Not really. Usually has to be guitar based for me, but there is stuff I listen to that's not guitar based like a bit of hip hop for example.
[Knight]: Nothing with a vocoder. No autotune.
[River]: Yeah, you can tell that from our album HAHAHA
[Knight]: We wear our influences on our sleeves.
Q: This is exciting, your 1st album release … What's behind the name, 'Grow'?
[Knight]: Well, for over a year it had the working title Flow and then around the time we were deciding on the cover, an abstract photo was taken of an old bike, leaning against a shed, but it had been there a while and the weeds had grown all through it and that didn't end up being the cover, it did change the title.
[River]: But then we realized that the album is about growth, so we got rid of the stylish yet negative photo and kept the title.
[Knight]: And just to top it off, the word is used in an important line in Sense Out Of Crisis so it was like the universe aligned for us.
Q: What was your creative process like? Where did the ideas come from?
[River]: I think Darren mentioned earlier that he was self medicating. Well, I couldn't let him do that alone so there were a lot of weekends and late nights where we would spend the whole time playing music and writing songs.
[Knight]: And a lot of people would come through my house, join us for a while, listen to us play, tell stories, and many of our ideas came from that.
Q: Were there any challenging aspects to writing and/or recording the album?
[River]: You mean apart from pandemics and lockdowns?
[mysoundMusic]: Touché
Q: In terms of the overall composition, do you have a favorite song on this album and why?
[River]: Oh, that's such a tough question for me. Shades That Hide The Sun was originally written as a love song but change a couple of words and hey presto - a break up song! I really like Elope because it's so delicate and soft sounding, yet the actual subject matter has been completely romanticized. I like that.
[Knight]: It's a bit easier for me. Heaven's Door mean the most to me. I don't think I need to go into why, it's fairly obvious.
Q: What song do fans seem to favor?
[Knight]: When we first started doing shows, we had learnt some covers for the set, and it was really nice that we got better reactions to our originals than we did our covers. And our covers got good reactions. Regret My Goodbyes, Heaven's Door and She Came Round always got good reactions.
Q: Are you interested in performing live?
[River]: We are interested in it and we do! We are trying to put together a festival tour for 2022. 3 Booked up in the UK so far, 1 in April, 2 in August. We've put ourselves forward for over 50 festivals in the UK and Europe, fingers crossed we get some of them. If anybody reading can help get us on a bill...?
[Knight]: We're also looking at setting up a gig where we have our friends that played on the album actually perform live with us. That would be amazing. It's be so cool to have Georgie up singing with us, or sharing a stage with the legend that is Big Daddy Rap Beast.
Q: Which of your songs is, or do you think would be, fun to perform live?
[River]: Going off the last answer I'd say if we can get all the guests together for a show Th(f)ree would be so much fun.
[Knight]: But we do have fun playing all of them live.
Q: Do you have any other plans relating to this release? A video?
[Knight]: Already have...
Q: Is there a message in your music?
[River]: Positivity and growth. Even if a song has a negative subject matter, the underlying message is turning that negative into a positive.
Q: Do you create music for yourself or for fans?
[River]: I'm sorry people, but I create music for me. If I don't like a song, or I'm not proud of the song, I won't put it out.
[Knight]: 100%, although stuff that we like can be popular stuff so maybe there's an element of both.
Q: Share a magical moment or positive experience that has happened during your career.
[Knight]: I always love it when I see people in the audience mouthing the words to our songs even though they've never heard them. That is magical.
Q: Would you like to travel to other countries to perform your music? If so, what would be your first stop?
[River]: We've been getting a fair bit of airplay in Australia and Canada, so maybe one of them? My family live in Spain, so maybe there?
[Knight]: I'd love to jump in my van, and tour as much of the planet as we can. I'd love that!
Q: Who inspires you musically?
[Knight]: Friends, family, loved ones, that's where the inspiration for our music comes from. Influenced by multiple musicians over many decades. Lennon, Gallagher, Garvey, Joni Mitchell
[River]: Paul Di'Anno. Axl Rose. Scott Weiland. That's just a couple of them, there are so many.
Q: If one artist were to perform at your party, who would get the call?
[River]: Probably Noel Gallagher so I could jam with him.
[Knight]: Yeah, River Knight with special guest Noel Gallagher HAHAHA
Q: Other than fame & fortune, is there something you hope to achieve through music?
[River]: We've discussed this many times. We don't really want fame and fortune. More like a job and a living.
[Knight]: Absolutely, just pay the bills and survive through music.
Q: What is your favorite/best outlet to connect with your followers Instagram, Spotify, FB, Twitter, iTunes? How would you want them to follow?
[River]: We're currently setting up an email newsletter that people will be able to sign up for through our website, but until that is up and running, we really appreciate the support of anyone that follows us on any of the platforms, we are on them all and we'd love to hear from people, stay in touch and keep people informed of all that is River Knight.
[Knight]: Yep, that one little click really does mean so, so much to us. And f**k me, if anyone actually wants to talk to us, brilliant!!

Q: Are you currently working on any projects we should look out for?
[River]: Look out for us on the bill at any festival near you.
[Knight]: New songs due out in 2022. Follow us any any of the social platforms (or all of them) to stay in the loop.

Q: Is there something you would like to say, that I didn't cover?
[River]: Nothing at all that comes to mind. Thanks for having us, really enjoyed it.
[Knight]: It's been an absolute pleasure speaking with you. Take care and stay safe.
