Ah, high school. How I miss those simpler days. I can still smell the fresh printer paper and the whiteboard markers. I remember those days, when my biggest problems seemed to be studying for exams and dealing with petty gossip between my friends. I miss those angsty days. I really do. Going back through my Spotify, I found a whole bunch of songs from back in the good old days.

For me, the music in this playlist invokes feelings inside that I just cannot explain. I had always found great comfort within the lyrics of my favourite songs. I used to spend a good hour on the school bus every day so I had a lot of opportunities to listen to some good tunes throughout my day!

  • Therapy by All Time Low

This one particular song was my jam in high school. I can belt out every single line to this song. I was fortunate enough to witness All Time Low perform live. That was by far one of my favourite concerts that I have ever had the pleasure of attending. They are such a beautiful band and this is such a lovingly beautiful song.

"In a city of fools, I was careful and cool , but they tore me apart like a hurricane."

  • Follow You by Bring Me The Horizon

I love this song. Bring Me The Horizon was one of my favourite bands back in the day and I still listen to this song quite frequently.

"So you can drag me through hell . If it meant I could hold your hand."

  • Yellow by Coldplay

"I came along , I wrote a song for you and all the things you do . And it was called Yellow."

My high school boyfriend was a massive guitar player. He actually performed this song for me way back in the day. I actually happen to sing it to my small children now that all these years have gone by. That was one of the most romantic things anyone has ever done for me. It is such a lovingly beautiful song.

  • I Don't Want To Be Here Anymore by Rise Against

"No longer recognize the place that I call home."

I still remember when I first discovered this song, sitting with my high-school nemesis in our school library. I fell in love with the band Rise Against when I was about 15 years old. Blood to Bleed is another good song by the band.

  • Crash by You Me At Six

I still listen to this band regularly but I can still remember that first time I listened to this song in my mother's basement. The words hit me in such a beautiful way.

"We were young, we were in our teens. It wasn't real love, Spent behind bars. Oh it's sad to think, We just let it be. Prisoners of love."

  • Hold On Till May by Pierce The Veil

"If I were you, I'd put that away . See, you're just wasted and thinking about the past again . Darling, you'll be okay."

This song reminds me of my old high school nemesis. We bonded together listening to Pierce Veil and Sleeping With Sirens. Anytime I listen to those bands, I think about her and the memories we shared- even if they were not all that great.

  • Hold Onto Me by Mayday Parade

Everybody knows Miserable At Best by Mayday Parade. This one song means so much more to me than the rest of the songs in this playlist combined. It is so hauntingly beautiful the way the artist sings the lyrics.

"I got a nervous habit and I drink too much . She said she hates her life and wants to change her ways . She wakes in the night and whispers, Oh, so quiet .. Hold onto me, hold onto me. "

  • Sangria by Blake Shelton

I selected this song for a reason. When I say that I miss high school, I mean I miss high school. This song makes me think of one of my closest friends from back in the day. After we all graduated and went our separate ways, we lost touch. I still think about him everytime I listen to this song. I hope he is doing well where ever he may in life.

"We're buzzing like that no vacancy sign out front."

  • If It Means A Lot To You by A Day To Remember

I remember the first time I listened to this song. An old crush of mine had sent it to me. It will forever be one of my favourite songs. I feel the pain behind the words within this song. A Day To Rememeber was always one of my favourite high school bands and this popular song of theirs is by far one of the most heartwrenching things I have ever had the pleasure of listening to. You won't regret it listening to it.

"Tell me something sweet to get me by."

  • Santa Monica by Theory of a Deadman

Remember the guitar player boyfriend? When we ended up going our separate ways in high school, we ended up spending about half an hour or so listening to sad break-up songs together in his red car. We spent so much time together listening to music in our relationship that it was the best mutual way to part ways. This was one of the songs we listened to. Theory of a Deadman has always been one of my favourite bands. (I am still mad about their name change, do not get me started on that.)

"I think someone's trying to show us a sign . That even if we thought it would last . The moment would pass . My bones will break and my heart would give."

  • Teenagers by My Chemical Romance

"They said, "All teenagers scare the livin' shit out of me" They could care less as long as someone'll bleed . So darken your clothes, or strike a violent pose . Maybe they'll leave you alone, but not me."

How can I throw it back to high school without a My Chemical Romance song? I can't. I loved this song when I was seventeen years old. It still is a pretty solid banger.

  • Savages by Theory of a Deadman (feat. Alice Cooper)

"Apocalypse is on it's way, we're all trained to be afraid . Just animals that can't be tamed, we're all just savages."

One last time speaking on the guitar player I promise. He bought me an Alice Cooper shirt once. I always kind of felt like a fraud wearing the band shirt I never listened to a whole bunch of Alice Cooper. This was one of my favourite songs back in the day though. There is such a weird vibe behind the beat and the lyrics, I absolutely adore it!

  • Song on Fire by Nickelback

"I write lines down, then rip them up . Describing love can't be this tough."

I got to watch Nickelback perform back in high school. They have always been one of my favourite bands. Honestly, that was a truly special experience getting to see them perform with my dad and his family. I grew up listening to them and this is one of my favourites by them!

  • All Signs Point to Lauderdale by A Day To Remember

"I hate this town, it's so washed up and all my friends don't give a fuck."

This. Song. I loved it back in the high school days. I still live in my hometown but when I was a teenager I absolutely hated every minute here. This was my perfect angsty bad day song.

  • Scar Tissue by Red Hot Chilli Peppers

I spent a lot of time driving around with my high school boyfriend. (I know, I'm talking about the guitar player again.) We listened to a lot of Red Hot Chilli Peppers together. This is one of my favourite songs by them. I have not actually sat down and listened to it for quite some time but it is such a poetic, dreamy song. It makes me think back to those good old high school days.

"Push me up against the wall . Young Kentucky girl in a push-up bra ."

  • Another One Bites The Dust by Queen

This is such a lively tune! It always brings a smile to my face whenever I hear it. I love screaming the words to this song in my car.

"Are you ready hey are you ready for this? Are you hanging on the edge of your seat? Out of the doorway, the bullets rip to the sound of the beat."

Well, this concludes my little throwback to my 2015 high school days! Stay tuned for my next greatest hits.
