Verse 1
A shooting star, a futile clue.
Just to bring me back to you.
Anything to hold you near,
Anything to belie this fear.
Everything too much, too few.
Pre-Chorus
You said you’d always be here with me,
That you’d always hold my hand,
In amongst the evergreens,
On summer-swelling sands,
Or winter’s eve by the fire.
You said you’d stay—
Always.
But you’re gone,
Gone away.
And in your place, the silence.
I can barely hear.
Chorus
I don’t know who I am without you,
Like the universe has lost its name.
Will I ever be the same?
The minutes in between, the days too new.
Who knew?
I don’t know who I am without you,
I’m a shadowed, breaking light.
No one left to hear me,
No one left to see.
Me.
Verse 2
Your footprints linger in the snow,
Like smudges left on windowpanes.
I reach for ghosts but can’t quite hold you,
Only silence where you remain.
And your grave gives no remorse.
Pre-Chorus
You said you’d always be there with me,
That you’d always hold my hand,
In amongst the evergreens.
You said you’d stay—
But you’re gone,
Gone away.
Chorus
I don’t know who I am without you,
Like the universe has lost its name.
Will I ever be the same?
The minutes in between, the days too new.
Who knew?
I don’t know who I am without you,
I’m a shadowed, breaking light.
No one left to hear me,
No one left to see.
Me.
Bridge
I listen to the wind,
Listen for the sound of the dreams
We used to hold.
In our hearts,
Living on.
On the wings of a dragonfly,
We flew beyond the sky.
Can you feel the stars in your hair?
Can you taste the longing in the air?
Can you feel the breeze on your beautiful face?
Are you free?
Tell me, baby—
Please tell me—
Are you free?
Are you flying up there,
Above me?
Final Chorus (A ghost’s call)
I don’t know who I am without you,
Like the universe has lost its name.
Will I ever be the same?
The minutes in between, the days too few.
I don’t know who I am without you,
I’m a shadowed, broken light.
No one left to hear me,
But do you still see?
Me.
Outro (Soft & Raw, Fading into Nothing)
On my knees, begging,
For the light to carry me home—
To you.
To come
Home.

OK. I can't sing for shit so I experimented with one of those AI generator things - just to see what it might sound like. So um yeah...here...
Also the challenge word count says 500 + words and Vocal has rejected it at 512. About 4 times - so now I am babbling about that to meet the 600 word count limit it got rejected about. Meh. Its a bit ridiculous really. All I want to do is submit the damn thing but apparently that's all just a bit much for the bot to handle. Computer says no and all that.
Just so I know I'm not losing the plot. well I am- but I can, contrary to popular belief, read.
