Peace is Relative, Emotion is Forever

I am not one to brag but I love making Spotify playlists. I entertain the hell out of myself by making character playlists. It helps me focus the emotions of those characters I am writing when muse escapes me.

That being said, I made this Epic Playlist after years and years of finding songs for characters that told their journey.

Every single song on this playlist tells a story of its own. If escaping from reality is your goal then why not lose yourself in something that sweeps you away to another universe altogether? There is nothing wrong with soft Zen music when you are in the mood for it. Yet I find that most of those kinds of playlists barely scratch the surface of distracting a person's mind.

Human beings are social creatures.

We long for connection, we long for the idea of being understood. Instrumental music is lovely but it does not compare to the emotional journey the right lyrics could take a person on. This is the playlist I put on when I want to get away from whatever trouble is on my mind.

There are upbeat songs, ballads, stories told that are dark, stories told that are romantic, there is no one genre here. As human beings, we express ourselves through our art. These are some of the best and most descriptive songs by these artists.

The word epic brings up images of Ancient Greeks writing long poems about their ill-fated heroes. There is more to the word though.

The word Epic is defined by Merriam-Webster in two ways:

1. Noun. A long narrative poem in elevated style recounting the deeds of a legendary or historical hero

and

2. Adjective. Extending beyond the usual or ordinary especially in size or scope

There are a range of emotions that make up the human experience.

Life is not always rainbows and sunshine. These artist encompass that range of emotion while also delivering songs that reach into a piece of you. Whether by sweeping music, a connection to lyrics or both, these songs take you away from whatever you were experiencing before.

I am not a person that is easily swept away. Chill vibes or the sound of an Amazonian rainforest are not going to do it for me. All those "peaceful" kind of sounds do is make me more focused on whatever was stressing me out in the first place. It takes a story being told and that is exactly what each of these songs do.

Transformation takes effort but that does not necessarily mean it has to be hard.

Not every song will resonate for we are different people with different experiences in life. Yet I hope that these songs help you get in touch with the emotion of the journeys in life YOU are taking. This is, after all, about you. There is nothing wrong with taking time for yourself. Self-reflection is what life is all about. We are all on a journey to become the very best versions of ourselves.

Giving time for yourself is not selfish; it is essential.

You have to let yourself feel things to get anywhere in life. Therapeutic music means something different to each person. To tune out the world and get in touch with myself, I turn to my Epic Playlist. To be in touch with my emotions brings me peace and serenity.

At least, it works better than trying to meditate or self-reflect to the empty sounds of waves crashing upon a shore! You have to be honest with yourself what kind of person you are. It takes some exploration, but I know I am the type that needs to be taken on a journey to get out of my own worries and stresses. If you are like that too then I hope you enjoy my playlist!
