Songs with titles beginning with the letter P

Usually, we choose songs we like by the melody, the lyrics, and by the musical genre. I’m starting a series with songs from all kinds of genres going according to the alphabet. Here are songs with titles that begin with the letter P. Links will be posted below as we proceed through the ABCs. At the end, you’ll find the links to the songs with titles that begin with the letters A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, K, L, M, N, and O.

The song “Paint It Black” by the English rock group The Rolling Stones has always been a favorite. I love the melody and enjoy singing along with the lyrics. The song was recorded in 1966 and written by band members Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. This is a raga rock song and has Indian, Middle Eastern, and Eastern European influences. It is on their album Aftermath. The song became a big hit and went to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and charted on the UK Singles chart. In 2018 it was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.

“Puttin’ On the Ritz” has long been a song that has made me want to dance and sing along. It is a song from long ago that was popular in musicals and I enjoy watching Old Hollywood musicals. The song was written by Irving Berlin in 1927 and was featured in the musical film of the same name. The title of the song was an expression inspired by the Ritz Hotel in London, England. The song came into the limelight again when in 1982 it was recorded by Indonesian-Dutch singer Taco making it a synth-pop cover version. This version became a global hit rising to number one on the Cash Box chart and also charting on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The song became Taco's only hit in the US.

“Peaceful Easy Feeling” is a song by The Eagles that has always given me just that kind of feeling. I love to turn up the volume and sit back and listen. The song was written by Jack Tampchin and recorded by the American rock band The Eagles in 1972. It is featured on their debut album Eagles and became one of the band's most popular songs.

“P. S. I Love You” is among my favorites from the English rock band The Beatles. I love the music, harmony, and lyrics. The Beatles recorded the song in 1962 and it was credited to Lennon-McCartney. It is featured on their debut album Please, Please Me and on their American release album Introducing...The Beatles.

The song “Paloma Blanca” by Dutch musician George Baker is a beautiful song and its melody makes me want to dance and fly along with doves. The song was recorded and released in 1975 by Baker's band George Baker Selection. The song became a number one hit throughout Europe. When the song was released in the US it also became a number one hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

The song “Paradise By the Dashboard Light” by American singer and songwriter Meat Loaf has always been a favorite. It is a very creative song with pretty risky lyrics but a lot of fun to listen to. The song was written by Jim Steinman and came out in 1977. It is on the album Bat Out of Hell with vocals by Meat Loaf and American singer and actress Ellen Foley. It became a staple of classic rock radio. The song charted on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

“Perhaps Love” is a lovely and tender love song. I listen to it and it brings back fond memories. The song was recorded by American singer and songwriter John Denver. It was made even more beautiful when recorded as a duo with Denver and Spanish opera singer Placido Domingo. It is featured on Domingo's 1981 album of the same name. The song charted on the Billboard Hot 100 and Adult Contemporary charts.

I have always loved American singer Janis Joplin's raspy and energetic singing and the song “Piece of My Heart” is among my favorites. This is a romantic soul song that was written by Jerry Ragovoy and Bert Berns. It was originally recorded in 1967 by Emma Franklin but came to the attention of the public when recorded by Big Brother and the Holding Company featuring Joplin on lead vocals in 1968. Their version was ranked at number 353 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. It is also included in The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs That Shaped Rock and Roll.
