Usually, we choose songs we like by the melody, the lyrics, and by the musical genre. I’m starting a series with songs from all kinds of genres going according to the alphabet. Here are songs with titles that begin with the letter K. Links will be posted below as we proceed through the ABCs. At the end, you’ll find the links to the songs with titles that begin with the letters A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, and J.

As soon as I hear the music for the song “Kokomo” by the American rock band The Beach Boys I can see swaying palm trees and golden sand. The song was written by John Phillips, Scott McKenzie, Mike Love, and Terry Melcher. It came out as a single in 1988 and became a number one hit in the US and Australia. It was the band’s first original Top 20 single in 20 years and their first number one hit in twenty-two years. The lyrics refer to two lovers taking a trip to a relaxing place on Kokomo, a utopian island off the Florida Keys. Being a fictional place there are references to actual Caribbean islands. The music video for the song was filmed at Grand Floridian Resort in Walt Disney World. American actor John Stamos was a live guest and played steel drums. The song has also been featured on the TV series starring Stamos “Full House”.

“Keep the Ball Rollin” by the American pop band Jay and the Techniques is a song with catchy lyrics and likable music. As soon as I hear the song I start mouthing the words, This pop group formed in Allentown, Pennsylvania during the mid-1960s were popular for their debut single “Apples, Peaches, Pumpkin Pie” and came up with another hit when they recorded this song which gave them their second Gold disc.

The song “Key Largo” by American singer and songwriter Bertie Higgins starts playing and I am transported to the Old Hollywood movies starring Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall, The song was released as a single in 1982 and became Higgins’ only Top 40 hit in the US. It is featured on his album Just Another Day in Paradise. The RIAA certified it Gold. It topped the Adult Contemporary chart and also charted on the UK Singles chart. The lyrics of the song refer to Hollywood actor Humphrey Bogart and actress Lauren Bacall who were the stars of the 1948 film of the same name as that of the song. The lyrics also refer to another Bogart film “Casablanca” which is a Hollywood classic. The music video was filmed in and around Tarpon Springs, Florida.

Just the first few notes of “Kentucky Rain” by American singer Elvis and then he begins to sing and I am carried away by the song. This song was written by American country music singer and songwriter Eddie Rabbitt and Dick Heard. It was recorded by Elvis and released as a single in 1970. The single was certified Gold by the RIAA in 1992.

Just hearing the song “Knowing Me Knowing You” by the Swedish pop group ABBA made me enjoy it as I enjoy most of their songs. This song is featured on their 1976 album Arrival. It was written by Benny Andersson, Bjorn Ulvaeus, and Stig Anderson. ABBA member Anni-Frid Lyngstad sings the lead vocals. It became a chart-topper in many countries, and Rolling Stone magazine ranked the song number two on their list of The 25 Greatest ABBA songs.

“Kiss an Angel Good Morning” by American country music artist Charlie Pride is just an enjoyable song and just right for singing along. The song was written by Ben Peters. The song became one of his signature tunes and his eighth song to rise to number one on the country charts. The song also charted on the Billboard Hot 100, Adult Contemporary, and Cash Box charts.

“Karma Chameleon” by the English band Culture Club, and featuring Boy George is just a delightful song from beginning to end, It is on their 1983 album Colour by Numbers. The song topped the UK Singles chart and went to number one also on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, It became the band’s biggest hit and only US number one song. The music video is set in Mississippi in 1870 and depicts a large multiracial group of people in 19th-century dress. Boy George is filmed in his signature look of colorful costume, fingerless gloves, long braids, and a black bowler hat.

The foot-stomping music begins on the song “Knock Three Times” by the American pop music group Tony Orlando and Dawn and my feet are stomping along too. This popular song was credited simply to Dawn.
