Music always helped me getting transported to a world where nothing mattered. I can’t imagine what could have become of me without the music. It helped me get through the night when it seemed impossible, it became the peace of my nights amidst the war, and most importantly, it helped me escape the materiality of this world when I needed it the most. I still can’t understand what magic it does and heal my wounds for a while. I think music creates a different self within you and helps you see the broader picture of life. There is strong psychology behind this. Here, I present to you the thoughts of a Melomaniac (exaggeration).

“ Music is life itself ” - Louis Armstrong

On Bad Days

When everything felt wrong, and everything seemed to fall apart, music helped me get through. Entering a world where none of these materialistic things mattered, all that mattered was me. My temporary failures seemed so small and insignificant. This is the most important thing, the motivation to move forward even after your traumatic failure. After having your worst failure in life when everything seemed falling, music somehow helps you work even harder the next day. One day, I was scrolling through Instagram Reels and found one clip where the person says :

Giving up is easy, you know what is hard? That I gave my 100% yesterday and got nothing from that, today I’m gonna try harder.

Music kind of helps you give the motivation to do that. After giving a few thoughts over this, I thought that even though I heard sad songs on my bad days, it somehow helped and motivated me to work harder from the next moment. How?

Your brain is helping you

I did a bit of psychology in my college, which helped me understand what was happening. Recently, I saw one clip of a popular Influencer Shadé Zahrai. She said :

When you’re remembering something, you’re actually not recalling the original event. ⁣ You’re just remembering the last time you remembered it.⁣

⁣And each time you remember it, you might actually change the memory.⁣

⁣Then, the next time you remember it, you remember the ‘changed’ version.

This is exactly what happens with your music. When you hear some of your favorite sad songs on your bad days, it helps because when last time you heard it, life was much happier, and your brains fit in the flashes of that day in your current thoughts. This is one of the reasons, and some people may disagree with this. Everyone doesn’t experience the same thing.

Another reason might be that you can relate to the singer, or the song is telling about even worse condition, which might help you understand that people also suffer a lot but don’t give up. There might be plenty of other reasons why a song helps you get through, but I think these are the primary ones.

On Good Days

When everything seems right, and you are on top of the world, music still plays a peculiar role. Once you are happy, you enjoy discovering new music, especially pop, and suddenly an old song pops up in your autoplay. A song you heard on your bad day. So what will your brain do now? Bring the old flashes of bad day back, and make you sad again?

Of course, the brain will link you back to the last time you heard that song, but it won’t make you sad. It’ll make you remember what you’ve been through and how you survived all those difficult years in the past. People who haven’t experienced it won’t understand how beautifully music and the brain are intertwined.

Benefits of being a music lover

  • Your bad days won’t be that bad, and your good days will be far more better.
  • If music is your partner, believe me, you don’t need anyone.
  • Betterment of vision and self-image.
  • Music is considered to be a very effective way of relieving symptoms of depression.

I hope I was able to relate to you. So, don’t let the music escape from your daily chores. Take a few minutes out of the day to vibe to your favs and enjoy peace of mind.
