Moments Of Break Barriers with Explosive New Single "Threshold"
Portland Emo Outfit Set the Stage for their Debut Album "At Least You Found a Way to Disappear"
With their new single “Threshold,” Portland, Maine’s own Moments Of plant their flag firmly in the modern emo revival while simultaneously carving out a lane that feels entirely their own.
Released in August 2025 as the first glimpse of their forthcoming debut album At Least You Found A Way To Disappear, the track combines jagged guitars, driving percussion and vocals that teeter between pained catharsis and soaring resolve. If emo is about channeling honesty into melody and power, then "Threshold" might be one of the most authentic examples we’ll hear this year.
Listen here:
Guitars snarl with a gritty bite, bolstered by tight, punchy snares that demand attention. There are echoes of late 90's and early 2000's emo and post-hardcore, but the production which is helmed by Adam Cichocki (owner of Timber Studios in Bayonne, NJ), ensures that the song feels vital and contemporary rather than retro for retro’s sake.
What makes "Threshold" stand out though is the way it confronts the turmoil of strained relationships and the fight to be seen and understood. Moments Of approach these themes with a sincerity and freshness.
Much of that comes from how "Threshold" was created. While the band initially entered the studio with well-developed plans, Cichocki challenged them to rethink their process, pushing them to strip ideas back to their bare bones and rebuild them in the moment. The result is a song that is spontaneous, electric and with loads of chemistry.
It’s also worth noting how the band has honed its identity in such a short time. Originally a solo project for Jack Howard, Moments Of expanded quickly, with guitarist Adam Howarth, vocalist Ben Wilson, bassist Kyle Gravel and drummer Dan Dunham solidifying the lineup into a five-piece powerhouse. Their collective energy in "Threshold" balances heaviness with melody, chaos with precision.
Beyond the song itself, the music video brings an added dimension. Filmed on a soundstage with warm tungsten lighting and a stripped-down, back-to-basics set, it’s a high-energy performance piece that avoids narrative frills in favor of showcasing the band’s intensity.
The decision recalls the glory days of early 2000s performance videos while feeling timeless in its delivery. Watching it, you get the same adrenaline rush as if you were pressed up against the barricade at one of their shows.
Performing live has become an essential part of Moments Of’s creative process, shaping everything from songwriting to visual presentation. The energy of the crowd, the dynamics of each venue, and the immediacy of connecting with fans all feed back into how the band approaches their studio work.
Every riff, beat, and lyric is considered not just for how it sounds in isolation, but how it will hit when amplified on stage. This focus on translation from studio to live performance ensures that every moment resonates, leaving audiences with a feeling that’s both intimate and electrifying.
And "Threshold" not only introduces themselves to a much wider audience, but is raising the stakes for what is to come on their debut album.
Emo may have grown up since its heyday, but in the hands of this Portland band it has never sounded more vital.
Moments Of are not only introducing themselves to a wider audience but also raise the stakes for what's to come on their debut album."At Least You Found a Way to Disappear" will not just be a debut album, but a defining moment that solidifies their place in the next wave of modern emo.
