In this world, it is sometimes nice to stop and to remember past times, people, and things that made us happy. Songs help us to take a stroll down Memory Lane once more and here are some that bring back the good times we shared.
Crying was the third album by American singer and songwriter Roy Orbison. It came out in 1962. The title song of the album became one of his hit songs. The song was honored with a Grammy Hall of Fame Award in 2002. The album has another song that I really love. It is a wonderful song and begins my list of the songs mentioned “Let’s Make a Memory”.
“Memories Are Made of This” is a popular song that was written by Terry Gilkyson, Richard Dehr, and Frank Miller in 1955. The most popular version of this song was recorded that same year by American singer and actor Dean Martin. His version made it to the top of the Billboard Top 100 chart. It became his biggest hit and was awarded a Gold record. The song also made it to the top of the UK Singles chart.
“Come and Get These Memories” is an R&B song that was recorded by the Motown girl group Martha and the Vandellas. It was the second single from Motown, The song charted on the Billboard Pop Singles chart and on the Billboard R&B Singles chart. This song was the first hit recording written and produced by the songwriting/production team of Holland-Dozier-Holland. They became the top creative team of Motown.
From The Monkees Davy Jones and Mickey Dolenz recorded an upbeat song “I Remember the Feeling” in 1976 with songwriters Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart.
“Don’t Forget to Remember” is a country ballad that was recorded by the musical group of brothers The Bee Gees. The song is included on their album Cucumber Castle. It was written by Barry and Maurice Gibb. The song was recorded in 1969.
“Let’s Make a Night to Remember” is a song that was written by Canadian rock singer Bryan Adams and Robert John “Mutt” Lange. Adams recorded the song in 1996 and it is the second single from this seventh album 18 Til I Die. The song became his eighth number one single in Canada and charted on the US Billboard Hot 100 and UK Singles charts.
“Yesterday” is a song that was recorded in 1965 by the English rock band The Beatles. It was written by Paul McCartney and credited to Lennon-McCartney. The song is on their album Help! and quickly rose to number one on the US charts and was on their debut US album Yesterday and Today.
“Yester-Me, Yester-You, Yesterday” is a soulful song from 1969. It was written by Ron Miller and Bryan Wells. The song was recorded by American Motown singer, songwriter, and musician Stevie Wonder. It is on his album My Cherie Amour. The song charted on the pop singles charts and it became Wonder’s ninth Top Ten single of the 1960s. He also recorded an Italian version titled “Solo te, Solo Me, Solo Noi”.
“Only Yesterday” is a song that was recorded by American pop duo The Carpenters. It was released in 1975 and was composed by Richard Carpenter and John Bettis. The song charted on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and went to number one on the Adult Contemporary chart. It became the eleventh number one on that chart for The Carpenters.
Originally a French song “Heir Encore” translated to “Just Yesterday” or “Not So Long Ago”. The song was composed by Georges Garvarentz and written by Charles Aznavour in 1964. In English, it became “Yesterday When I Was Young” with the best version recorded by American country musician Roy Clark. The song became one of his biggest hits and charted on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart. Clark performed this song at the funeral of American baseball great Mickey Mantle.
