There are songs that sound good, and then there are songs that feel necessary.

MASSEY’s latest single, “Comeback Morning,” belongs squarely in the latter camp — a soul-stirring revival anthem that doesn’t just move you, it reminds you that you can still move forward.

Listen here:

Clocking in as one of his most fully realized works to date, “Comeback Morning” is a triumphant blend of Southern gospel, deep-pocket funk and rock & roll grit.

You can feel the mission as a resurrection of sorts. And not the kind that floats in the clouds - this is gritty, ground level rebirth, the kind that you earn aqfter dragging yourself through your own wreckage.

MASSEY has vocals like a man possessed by purpose. There is a preacher esque quality or poet like quality to the vocals. Each phrase is strong and echoes the song's core belief, that "the comeback is always sweeter".

It's that message that rides on the backs of some serious musical heavyweights: Charlie Wooton lays down a bass groove that could shake bricks loose. Meanwhile, Peter Oravetz and Daniel Groover’s guitars play off each other like old friends trading stories at sunrise.

Doug Belote’s drumming is tight, while Michael Lemmler’s organ gives the whole thing its gospel backbone. Add in the legendary 504 Horns and powerhouse vocals from Shaun Murphy, and you’ve got a track that almost levitates.

But what really makes “Comeback Morning” hit isn’t just the musicianship (though it’s excellent). It’s the soul behind it.

MASSEY does not chase trends. He is offering a hand here. A track that meets you right in your worst moment and says, "Hey - you’re not done yet.” That’s rare.

Overall, "Comeback Morning" is for windows down drives after a long winter. It's for the early risers chasing something better. And for anyone who has had to claw and clamber their way back to the light and dared to believe it was still worth it.

“Comeback Morning” is taken from MASSEY’s forthcoming debut album, Reason For Being, due this summer via Bent River Records. With buzz growing from early singles and first live shows lined up at NOLA JazzFest, MASSEY seems less like a new artist and more like a soul revival we didn’t realize we needed.

About MASSEY

If you’re just getting to know MASSEY, now is the perfect time.

Born from a creative flashpoint between vocalist MASSEY and producer JoeBaby Michaels, this isn’t a typical band or solo act. It's more of a sound experiment that channels voice-led compositions into fully orchestrated musical pieces.

MASSEY doesn’t play instruments in the traditional sense. Instead, he sings the songs into existence , whether its whistling basslines, humming horn parts or scatting hooks. Then, he brings them back to life through a trusted circle of collaborators, chief among them are guitarist and co-writer Peter Oravetz.

Drawing deeply from New Orleans funk, retro soul and the swagger of rock, MASSEY’s sound is unique. His music lives somewhere between a smoky Bourbon Street back room and a sunrise drive through your own personal redemption story.
