Isabel (You Are My Mother)
The story behind the song
In 2024 I wrote about 30+ lyrics for songs I would create using AI and digital tools. Somewhere within those 30+ the thought came to me that my mom deserves to be memorialized in song. She is an amazing person. Yes, I am biased but the lady truly is wonderful. She has done a lot of things to help others but first and foremost she has been one great mom. She and I have always had a very close relationship.

To tell her story I am going to do a line by line analysis of the song lyrics. The words in parenthesis following the lyrics are the analysis.

Isabel
I am her reflection, (I was born to her and I belong to her. I can see a little bit of her in my face)
She brought me into this world,
She gives me love and affection, (She has always been a mother who gives hugs and kisses)
She's my little trouble girl. (She's not perfect. Mom has always had her mental health issues - but that never impeded her desire to be a nurturing mom)
She is completely blind, (She was diagnosed with glaucoma in 1980 and by 2010 she completely lost her eyesight)
And she cannot walk, (In January 2022 she (and I) ended up with COVID. She was in the hospital for eight days. When she came home she had lost her ability to walk and it has never come back)
But she's happy in her mind, (Despite all the health problems and disabilities that follow her she is still happy on the inside)
You can hear it when she talks. (You can hear her happiness when she talks. She has a lilt in her voice and chuckles with her words)
She's my little angel delight, (I call her my little angel because she is such an inspiration to me)
She's another natural wonder, (She's another natural wonder because no matter what comes up against her she keeps on going)
Her smile shines so bright, (Her little smile brightens my life. I become filled with joy overflowing when she smiles)
I love the lady, she's my mother. (what can I say... I Love Her)
Isabel, Isabel, you're such an inspiration, (My mom inspires me. She has such a will and desire to be a good person and do what is right.)
Isabel, Isabel, always been a giver, (I have never known anyone who gives of themselves as much as my mom. she has helped many, many people throughout her life. There are many people that love my mom deeply)
Isabel, Isabel, we love your dedication, (My mom is so dedicated to love. For instance when the caregiver is feeding her she will grab their hand and start kissing it - she is so full of true unconditional love - a few caregivers and friends that can attest o her love are Jenn, Gwen, Esmeralda, Roxana, and Laura)
Isabel, you are my mother.
Even in your darkness,
You manage to see light, (she is completely blind but still the goodness in her heart lights the way)
Your kisses are the sweetest, (I love it when she asks me to come near and then she plants a big beautiful kiss on my face)
You won't give up the fight. (People have said she is like the energizer bunny - she keeps takes a licking but keeps on ticking - she keeps going and going and going)
Isabel, Isabel, thank you for your wisdom, (My mom is one of the smartest people I have ever known in my life - even in the throes of demntia her intelligence shines through)
Isabel, Isabel, always thinking of others, (She is truly always concerned about the well-being of others)
Isabel, Isabel, your kindness is our freedom, (Her kindness and love is a freedom because it is true without strings attached. She gives love without expectation)
Isabel, you’re my mother.

'20/20'
"Do It Again" the track that would ultimately open the Beach Boys final album on Capitol Records which was released on February 10th 1969 had originally been released as a single in August of 1968. The track was the first of many post-Pet Sounds era throwbacks to the early Beach Boys sound which would become continually more cliched and eventually lead the Beach Boys to the level of self-parody they would eventually succumb to in the 1980s while their closest contemporaries The Beatles nearing the end of their run in 1969 would go on to be viewed as the most influential band of all time. However, the song itself is not bad on its surface, and it opens with a futuristic sounding (for 1969) drumbeat captured by then-Beach Boys engineer Stephen Desper using tape delays on the drums performed by Dennis Wilson and John Guerin. The song has been re-recorded numerous times over the years on various Beach Boys-related projects most notably the 2011 re-recording at Capitol studios featuring the five surviving Beach Boys at the time backed instrumentally by various members of both the Brian Wilson Band and Mike Loves touring "Beach Boys" to promote the then upcoming Beach Boys 50th Anniversary reunion tour in 2012. The hammering and power drill sound at the end of the song was an excerpt from a track called "Workshop" that was to be a part of the uncompleted "SMiLE" album.
