[Verse 1]

Southern Ontario, South of the Sue,

In a little farm town with, nothing to do,

There's a story about a boy, a good chunk of it's true,

He lost, everything he had when he had something to lose,

It all, started with this woman when he made her his wife,

Together they had a child, and a really good life,

Until they started to fight, and then it came to an end,

When she had an affair, with his, fucking, best friend.

[Chorus]

Now he's heading west on a plane to the plains,

It's probably for the best,

It pours when it rains,

Alberta bound in an oil field drilling,

It's a damn hard life but a man could make a killing,

[Bridge]

Providing for his children while he's digging his grave,

Praying that God can keep his family safe,

Working like a slave with no desire to live,

The only thing on his mind is that innocent kid,

[Chorus]

So he's heading west on a plane to the plains,

It's probably for the best,

It pours when it rains,

Alberta bound in an oil field drilling,

It's a damn hard life but a man could make a killing,

[Verse 2]

So God willing, the journey begins,

He drowns himself in whiskey trying to wash all her sins,

Avoiding that woman who he thought was the one,

While his ex-best friend grows a bond with his son,

It's fucking diabolical, ridiculous too,

The worst part about it is it's actually true,

He'll come back home for a couple of weeks,

To spend time with his son until the cycle repeats,

[Chorus]

And he's heading west on a plane to the plains,

It's probably for the best,

It pours when it rains,

Alberta bound in an oil field drilling,

It's a damn hard life but a man could make a killing,

[Bridge]

Providing for his children while he's digging his grave,

Praying that God can keep his family safe,

Working like a slave with no desire to live,

The only thing on his mind is that innocent kid,

[Chorus]

So he's heading west on a plane to the plains,

It's probably for the best,

It pours when it rains,

Alberta bound in an oil field drilling,

It's a damn hard life but a man could make a killing,

[Verse 3 {Bonus Verse}]

All,

Day and night,

He's working away, All the pain in his life,

All,

Day and night,

He can't shake the memory, Jack Daniels with Ice,

Is what he's taking, medication for the things he's been through,

His heart is breaking, desperation to escape from the truth,

It's the homebound horror of Ontario sky's,

He turns around to avoid all the feelings inside,

[Chorus]

Then he's heading west on a plane to the plains,

It's probably for the best,

It pours when it rains,

Alberta bound in an oil field drilling,

It's a damn hard life but a man could make a killing,

[Bridge]

Providing for his children as he's digging his grave,

Praying that God can keep his family safe,

Working like a slave with no desire to live,

The only thing on his mind is that innocent kid,

[Chorus]

So he's heading west on a plane to the plains,

It's probably for the best,

It pours when it rains,

Alberta bound in an oil field drilling,

It's a damn hard life but a man could make a killing,

---------------

I've always appreciate songs that told a story, so I decided to write one of my own. It's based on a true story, however, I don't know the people personally so the story was exaggerated to feel more authentic and emotional. I had to add a third verse to meet the minimum word count requirements for the harmonic verses challenge, it's not apart of the original song. I recorded a video of me singing the original version (I apologize for my underdeveloped singing skills), and I wrote the extended version below. Hope you enjoy!
