Montreal-based guitarist, bassist, and composer Galamba shares his exuberant new single, “Sea Shack,” a radiant instrumental that bridges Afro-Brazilian heritage with modern genre-bending sounds. “Sea Shack” is more than just a groove-rich composition — it’s a sonic snapshot of a beautiful moment shared among friends. Inspired by a joyful reunion at the Gaspésie-based hostel of the same name, the song pulses with a celebratory spirit from its first beat. “This song brings me joy. It makes me want to move and celebrate,” Galamba shares. “It was born in a beautiful moment with dear friends, and every part of it – from the rhythm to the improvisation – carries that spirit.”

Rooted in Ijexá, an Afro-Brazilian rhythm traditionally performed in 4/4 but here reimagined in a rare 3/4 time signature, “Sea Shack” balances cultural respect with fearless exploration. The odd meter, far from disorienting, gives the track a distinctive bounce and forward momentum. This rhythmic core is complemented by funk-inflected hits and a wah-drenched guitar solo that evokes the influence of Fela Kuti and Brazilian funk masters alike. The track’s structure is loose yet cohesive — an organic unfolding that mirrors the feeling of a jam between friends that suddenly blossoms into something transcendent.

The joy and warmth of “Sea Shack” are amplified by a pair of standout collaborators. Guest vocalist Bianca Rocha brings a Camille Bertault-esque playfulness to the wordless vocal melodies, delivering phrases that are bright, expressive, and soulful. Her voice becomes another instrument in the ensemble, trading phrases with Galamba’s guitar and dancing atop the rhythm section. Meanwhile, keyboardist Manoel Vieira’s Wurlitzer adds a breezy, Donato-inspired flair, pushing the song into that rare space where deep musicality and sheer fun exist side by side.

While rooted in Brazilian tradition, Galamba’s approach is global in scope and execution. There’s an unmistakable Montreal influence in the way jazz, funk, and rock are interwoven into the song’s DNA. It’s music made for dancing, but also for close listening — full of subtle harmonic shifts, tight rhythmic interplay, and a sense of spontaneity that feels entirely unforced.

Galamba, born in Recife, Brazil, has long been one of Montreal’s most sought-after sidemen. His versatility has taken him around the world, performing with a wide range of artists across genres and cultures. With “Sea Shack,” he confidently steps forward as a solo artist, putting his distinct voice and musical worldview front and center. His compositions are personal without being insular, technically impressive without losing emotional resonance — music that invites everyone in.

“Sea Shack” follows April’s single “O Galo,” and will be joined by “Samba Pra Oram” on August 22 as the final release before the full album drops. Taken together, these tracks reflect Galamba’s clear artistic vision: one that honors his roots while refusing to be bound by them. His debut album, due August 29, 2025, promises to be a rich tapestry of sound and spirit, blending Brazilian rhythms with the improvisational language of jazz, the textures of rock, and the universal appeal of groove-driven music.

Galamba’s work is a reminder that joy is a serious pursuit. “Sea Shack” may be a song born from a weekend with friends, but it carries the weight and freedom of a lifetime spent studying, playing, and living music across borders. It’s a track that celebrates not only where he’s from, but also where he’s going — and it invites listeners to dance right alongside him on the journey.
