Please enjoy our interview.
How has your music evolved since you first started, and what key experiences have contributed to your growth as an artist?
Eye'z: My music has evolved in a more electronic direction. I've been considering taking things back to my roots, just performing and filling the room with songs like my auntie Sharon used to do!
In what ways do you aim to push creative boundaries with your music, and how do you stay innovative in a constantly evolving industry?
Eye'z: It's hard as everything is getting so automated. Then, it leaves out natural improvisation and projecting of your voice. Mics are even going downhill. I have noticed a decline in mixing. Don't get me wrong, there are still some good mixes out there, but I have seen producers use automated mixing… like for the final cut. That was so shocking to me. I am totally open to working with modern producers who still want real vocal performances and music.
What message or feeling do you hope listeners take away from "Sugar"? How does this song fit into the larger narrative of your artistic journey?
Eye'z: I hope it speaks to them however it should. Even though the song may seem bittersweet to some, it's also an ending. Sometimes you just don't want to play these games anymore, and you have to say, "Sugar, you don't see me," and move on. It fits in my musical journey. I have a lot of songs with a similar tone, but it's more modern. I like it and am ready to continue to experiment.
Beyond "Sugar," what other projects are you currently working on? Can you give us a glimpse into what's next for Eye'z?
Eye'z: I am mostly looking forward to performing "Sugar" everywhere! I am working on a new release, but it's a surprise.
What are some must-have items you need when you are in the studio recording your music?
Eye'z: A good audio guy really helps the session, presuming the studio is well established. A quiet room, me in the studio with a piano, some tea, and my audio guy - I'm ready.
How do you keep motivated to continue your career path?
Eye'z: Keeping my family's legacy alive.
Looking ahead, what are your long-term goals as an artist, and how do you plan to continue evolving and pushing the boundaries of your music?
Eye'z: I want to get back in the studio and create, to be honest. As far as evolving, it's up to who listens. I appreciate those who appreciate my uniqueness. I read the comments and I hear you. THANK YOU!
