Eric Selby Releases Brand New EP "Starting to Sync In"
Timeless Sounds, Fresh Perspectives and Unfiltered Emotion

Eric Selby has never been one to follow a straight path. His music has developed in the best way possible - sometimes dipping into groove-heavy rock, other times floating through folk-pop atmospheres or leaning into playful and percussive funk.
His latest EP "Starting to Sync In" is a brilliant collection of five tracks that feel like they’ve been pulled from different corners of his musical universe.

There’s a certain magic in songs that feel instantly familiar, even on a first listen. It’s not that Selby is retreading old ground - it’s that he understands the delicate balance between accessibility and originality. There are songs that take up space and loop back when you least expect them.
Take the opener, "Issues". On the surface, it’s a tongue-in-cheek reflection on life’s lingering troubles but underneath the wry humor and undeniable groove, there’s something deeper. The funky bass line and tight drum work create a vintage, 70s-inspired white soul vibe, reminiscent of artists who knew how to make introspection feel like a danceable event. It’s a song that invites movement, even as it makes you think.
Then comes "Wine Stains", a track that leans into a more cinematic, layered sound. The song unfurls a bit like a dream sequence. Gentle, hypnotic, and slightly surreal. Lyrically, it’s a meditation on the small scars we carry, whether emotional or literal and the human tendency to overanalyze them.
But Selby doesn’t offer neat resolutions. Instead, he embraces the ambiguity. The instrumentation here is particularly striking, blending acoustic textures with subtle, psychedelic flourishes.
"Because of You" shifts gears and offers a heartfelt moment of gratitude wrapped in shimmering rock tones. At its core, it’s about connection. It's about the kind of love and support that keeps you grounded. There’s no over-the-top sentimentality here, just a simple and honest reflection on the people who make life’s chaos feel a little more manageable. The chorus has a slow-burning quality, building momentum with each repetition until it fully soars.
The EP’s latter half continues to explore dynamic contrasts.
"The songs on “Starting To Sync In” were not intended to be a collective message, but I think when all was said and done, these 5 tracks do have a theme. The theme is observing and appreciating what is around us, for acknowledging our personal challenges, for giving and accepting love and for not taking responsibility for other people’s feelings but still having compassion and empathy."
Closing out the EP is "Just The Same", a track that further solidifies Selby’s reputation as both a storyteller and a sonic craftsman. Rather than presenting a straightforward narrative, he plays with perspective, bringing together observations that feel both deeply personal and relatable.
The blend of Virginia and Nashville recording sessions could have led to a disjointed final product, but thanks to the mastering expertise of Andy Walter everything comes together with a richness that makes each song feel authentic and live in rather than being overly produced.
What makes "Starting to Sync In" really stand out though is its refusal to be boxed into a single sound. It’s an EP that shifts effortlessly between moods and styles, never losing its sense of identity.
