Victoria, BC-based indie rock staples Current Swell return with 10 Feet Tall, the vibrant new five-song EP and the second of two companion releases recorded with JUNO-nominated producer Gus van Go. Out now, the project marks a triumphant continuation of the band’s evolving sound—rich with warmth, groove, and singalong energy—while reaffirming the emotional honesty and melodic craftsmanship that have become their calling card.

Recorded at Toronto’s Boiler Room Studios, 10 Feet Tall finds Current Swell in a creative pocket, fully present and clearly enjoying the ride. There's a tangible sense of ease in these songs, a confidence that comes from years of collaboration and connection, both with each other and their loyal fanbase. From the euphoric title track to the sun-drenched bounce of “High As a Kite,” the EP radiates joy, gratitude, and self-assured musicality.

The project’s focus track, “I Got Mine,” captures the band in classic form. A mid-tempo anthem full of rootsy instrumentation, nostalgic glow, and singalong hooks, it’s a track that feels instantly familiar in the best way. Echoes of past fan favorites like “I Want a Bird” ring through in the song’s layered arrangements and melodic warmth, making it a standout for longtime listeners while remaining accessible to new audiences. It’s proof that Current Swell can look back and move forward at the same time—honoring the essence of their past while continuing to explore new sonic terrain.

Current Swell’s lineup—Scott Stanton and David Lang as longtime co-leads, joined by Louis Sadava, Marcus Manhas, Phil Hamelin, and Dave St. Jean—has built a career on blending indie rock sensibilities with elements of folk, soul, and roots. Their music has always been defined by connection: to each other, to their coastal surroundings, and to the audiences they’ve cultivated around the world. With hundreds of millions of streams and sold-out tours across North America, South America, and Europe, the band has grown from grassroots beginnings into a global presence without losing the authenticity that made them beloved in the first place.

10 Feet Tall is as much about staying grounded as it is about rising above. Even in its most carefree moments, the EP never loses its emotional anchor. There’s a quiet resilience woven through each track, a reminder that joy isn’t naïve—it’s earned. This thematic duality makes the EP feel especially timely. In a world still reeling from uncertainty, these songs offer a kind of musical exhale, a reason to laugh, sing, and hold the people you love a little closer.

The interplay between playfulness and reflection shines throughout the EP. Tracks like “10 Feet Tall” and “High As a Kite” burst with infectious energy and lyrical lightness, perfect for road trips, festivals, or just blasting with the windows down. But others lean into more contemplative textures, offering moments of quiet clarity. It’s a dynamic balance that speaks to the band’s maturity and creative trust—each member contributing to a shared sonic vision without ego or excess.

That sense of synergy is bolstered by Gus van Go’s production. Known for his work with artists like The Stills, Whitehorse, and Said the Whale, van Go helps the band amplify their strengths without over-polishing their edges. His touch is evident in the EP’s tight arrangements and rich tones, but the soul of the songs remains distinctly, unmistakably Current Swell.

With 10 Feet Tall, Current Swell continues to do what they’ve always done best—craft heartfelt, melodic, and groove-laden songs that speak to the human experience. Whether reflecting on the past, celebrating the present, or dreaming of what’s next, they offer music that feels like home: warm, honest, and joyfully alive.
