Attention all Artists!
Today I want to explain a little bit about Playlisting, Streams and its important role on breaking through the algorithms.
I suggest every artist start making your own playlists on whichever streaming service you choose. Make it fun, make it exciting. Enough so, that you would want to listen to it yourself.
Add your new songs and all other artists songs you like on there. Spread it out, stream and share!
Promote your songs as well as your playlist, this way everyone included gets some love and streams.
By doing this, not only are you promoting yourself and others, but you will create a buzz that the streaming services will view as something new is happening.
This will potentially get you thrown into their streaming algorithms which will then lead to your songs potentially getting streamed organically by more fans.
Increasing your visibility, sound and ultimately more pay outs.
For example:
I play my playlist in order or put it on shuffle. This allows me to constantly hear new music while supporting my fellow artists.
Also If you noticed, all the big artists promote their playlists. They have a new album out, best believe they have a playlist for it.
What makes it more fun is if your not into listening to albums. You’d get a better listen when those songs from the album are mixed in with popular music.
I call myself the “Networking King” for this reason. I blend in my music with popular music and all the independent artists I like together on a playlist.
Then I send out a message to each artists I added. I send them the link and advise them to reach out to the other artists so they can trade follows.
Win win, now lets get our careers growing together shall we. Also, If you made a new playlist and would like me to take a listen to it, send it over to my Dms @caljamonit.
Helping curators build their playlists and sharing tips has been my thing now for over a year. I think noone should feel alone being a curator. Yes we love music, yes we enjoy making playlists but what if you connect with others that do the same? Thats where I come in and guide you.
Artists all want to be heard, the best way to get your music out there is sharing individual links and playlists. Bringing an audience to your world and keeping them is by bringing what you got with what they already like.
If your music is Rnb or Hip Hop then youd want to put that genre of music in your playlist and mix your songs in it.
It’s so much easier to introduce new music with songs that are popular already. Skip rates decline extremely on playlists when the previous and following song is popular.
It’ll make a person stay on the playlist longer. So make your playlist as easy as possible to be heard and get creative with your cover arts so that its attractive enough to stop and listen.
Promoting your playlist
Now this is a whole other concept which I’ll elaborate further on another post. Briefly you want to use Facebook ads and target your genre audience. Five dollar a day strategy works tremendously.
Now you dont want to promote just the playlist link directly from Spotify because you wont be able to see the traffic your bringing in. You want to use a smart link so that you can track who engages.
Smart links can be found on Toneden.io or linkfire. These links will give you an idea of where your traffic is coming from which will then give you insight on to which states to retarget.
I hope this information finds you well and helps you spark ideas for bringing more traffic to your music.
