Those captivating blue eyes

Bobby Sherman was a beloved American pop singer, heartthrob, teen idol, and actor who was famous in the late 1960s and early 1970s. His pageboy haircut, mellow voice, deep blue eyes, and boyish charm captivated young baby boomer girls. He was part of a culture of fun music and innocence that we will never see again.

His hit songs like “Little Woman,” “Julie, Do Ya Love Me,” and “Easy Come, Easy Go,” led to his posters on bedroom walls all across the nation. The icon passed away on June 24, 2025, at the age of 81, after a battle with cancer.

It always frustrates me when someone lives that long cancer-free and then succumbs to the dreaded illness. Condolences to his loved ones. It's difficult to imagine Sherman at 81 as his youthful image remains in the hearts and minds of his fans.

Music, television, and film careers

Sherman's music career led to several gold-certified hits and a schedule filled with filming and performing. Sherman released 107 songs, 23 singles, and 10 albums between 1962 and 1976. Seven of his releases became top 40 hits. He toured in the US and abroad and had sold-out concerts with lots of screaming female fans.

Millions of those in television audiences enjoyed Sherman as Jeremy Bolt on the series Here Come the Brides (1968–1970), a shy logger in a frontier town, also appeared in The Monkees, The Partridge Family, The Mod Squad, Murder She Wrote, The Ed Sullivan Show, Emergency, Honey West and many more.

A life of public service

In the early 1990s he left his career behind to become a paramedic and later a Technical Reserve Police Officer with the LAPD and later still, a reserve sherrif.

In 1998, after an absence of 25 years, Sherman appeared in "The Teen Idol Tour" with Peter Noone and Davy Jones. (Micky Dolenz replaced Davy Jones on the tour in 1999.) Sherman performed his last concert as a solo performer in Lincoln, Rhode Island, on August 25, 2001. Although retired from public life, he still appeared at corporate and charity events. He was ranked No. 8 in TV Guide's list of "TV's 25 Greatest Teen Idols" (January 23, 2005, issue) Per Wikipedia.

Sherman away from the spotlight

To my knowledge, Bobby Sherman lived a scandal-free life with one exception. Many teenage girls dreamed of meeting the icon, but one woman took it to the next level. Her name was Ethel Richarson and she was accused of stalking him. Sherman's first wife was Patti Carnel, with whom he had two sons before they divorced.

On July 18, 2010, he married Brigitte Poublon, who reported after his death that he was brave, gentle, and full of light,” and still cracked jokes and smiled during his final days on this earth. She also said that he had stage four kidney cancer that had spread all over his body.

Bobby Sherman was one of those rare entertainers who leaves a legacy of music, television shows, kindness, and public service. It's rare to hear of someone so successful in the entertainment industry giving it up to lead a life where they serve others. This attests to the character of the former entertainer.

A generation of baby boomer fans will never forget the handsome teen idol with the twinkle in his adorable blue eyes or how his image was on the cover of magazines like Tiger Beat and Teen. His mellow sound and happy music will forever remain in the hearts of those blessed to enjoy his hit records and watch his concerts and television performances..
