Blessing Tangban's New Single Captures the Presence of God in Mountains and Valleys

Award-Winning Singer-Songwriter Releases Worship Song Written on a Nigerian Mountaintop

Blessing Tangban has released "God Of…," a worship single that started on a mountaintop in Nigeria and turned into something much bigger. The African Nova Scotian Music Association's 2025 Songwriter of the Year wrote the track while looking out over mountains and valleys, and that physical landscape became a metaphor for everything she wanted to say about God. The song is about how God shows up in the celebrations and the hard times, in the moments when you feel close to Him and the moments when you're not sure He's there at all.

The production on "God Of…" is expansive without feeling overblown. Tangban uses cinematic arrangements to create a sense of space and grandeur, but the lyrics keep everything tethered to real experience. This isn't worship music that deals in platitudes or easy answers. It's a song that acknowledges the full range of what it means to follow God, including the parts that don't make sense and the seasons that leave you feeling lost.

"This song is my reminder that God is present in every part of my story – from the mountaintop moments to the quiet, broken places," says Tangban. "'God Of…' is a declaration of awe – for a God who's not limited by our highs or lows, but is deeply involved in every detail."

Tangban's sound is hard to categorize because it pulls from so many different influences. She grew up listening to Nigerian folk music, and those rhythms and melodies show up in her work. But she also writes like someone who's spent time with folk and singer-songwriter traditions, crafting lyrics that feel specific and personal. Then there's the cinematic side of her production, which gives her songs a scale and drama that sets them apart from typical worship music. All of those elements come together in "God Of…," creating something that feels both intimate and epic.

The title leaves space for listeners to fill in the blank. God of what? The answer changes depending on who's listening and what they're going through. For Tangban, it's the God of the mountain and the valley, the healed and the broken. For someone else, it might be something different. That openness is part of what makes the song work. It doesn't tell you how to feel or what to think. It just makes room for you to bring your own story into it.

"'God Of…' isn't meant to explain God, it's meant to acknowledge Him," she says. "If it leads someone to pause – even for a moment – and feel both awe and comfort, then it's done its job."

Tangban's music bridges cultures and continents. She's a Nigerian-Canadian artist making worship music that doesn't sound like it came from a Nashville studio or a megachurch stage. Her songs draw from African soul, folk storytelling, and cinematic production, creating a sound that feels both familiar and fresh. It's music that invites people to slow down, reflect, and rediscover something they might have lost along the way.

"God Of…" is the latest single from Tangban's forthcoming third studio EP. Her 2024 releases "Teach Me" and "Prayer" laid the groundwork for this new project, which continues her exploration of faith, identity, and belonging. The upcoming EP weaves together the same mix of African soul, cinematic worship, and folk-inspired storytelling that's become her signature. It's music that feels grounded in tradition while still pushing forward into new territory.

Tangban writes worship music for people who've lived enough life to know that faith isn't always straightforward. "God Of…" is a song for anyone who's stood on a mountain and felt small, or sat in a valley and needed to know they weren't alone. It's a reminder that God shows up in all of it, the beautiful and the broken, the triumphant and the uncertain.
