Big Brain Bangers

No WAP, just WFH (working from home!!)

Third Place in Brain Power Playlist Challenge

This year has been a weird one, to say the least. The world has been flipped upside down and we’re all getting used to this new way of life. Wearing masks, social distancing, and the constant use of hand sanitizer! But, this new way of life has also has a plus side: WFH! Working from home has become the new normal, and for most of us that’s pretty great.

No fancy work clothes, no annoying colleague stealing your lunch, and no face-to-face chats with your boss! It all sounds great, but is working from home all it’s cracked up to be?

Some days can be difficult. Staying in the same place all day, hunched over a laptop in your own home can be repetitive and boring. To stay motivated, and enjoying WFH, you need some “Big Brain Bangers”: music that will help you get into the working spirit.

Here’s some from the Spotify playlist I created, which you can find here!

The game/film soundtracks

I don’t know about you, but some instrumentals allow me to focus really well. I know some people need those Ariana Grande riffs, or Hamilton lyrics to keep them motivated, but for me I love listening to instrumentals! It helps make my thought process flow a lot easier.

One I particularly enjoy is Lotus Flowers by Yolta

This instrumental is from the Spyro the Dragon videogame, and I find it so relaxing. (Come to think of it, the entire Spyro trilogy has an amazing soundtrack!) It’s an easy listen and can help you stay calm when work is stressing you out. I recommend songs like this as they’re just so helpful to get you into the zone!

Lo-fi tunes

There’s a couple of lo-fi tracks in this playlist to help you feel upbeat while you’re working. During my studying years, a lot of lo-fi tracks featured on my playlists because they’re so easy to listen to and they help with motivation.

My favourite one on this playlist is Top Floor by Moody Bit

This song has such a chill vibe to it that it instantly helps me when I’m working. As a writer, the upbeat tune encourages me to write more, and therefore I feel more productive. It’s great for my self-esteem and really puts me in the mood to work.

Piano and guitar

Songs that are simply just guitar or piano capture my heart. They are such easy songs to listen to, and they’re beautiful to listen to as well! Having music in the background is always so important to me while I’m working, and piano and guitar solos are perfect to me.

The well-known piano piece River Flows in You by Yiruma is one of the best!

For guitar, it will have to be Guus Dielissen’s cover of Take On Me

Acoustics

Although I love instrumentals to keep me motivated and focused, every now and then I really get into acoustic versions of songs. Sometimes we all need a little break from our work and singing along to the lyrics can be a well-earned rest!

Acoustics are a lot easier to listen to when working because there’s not a lot of background noise. It’s just the artist and their vocals, plus the very basic instruments so you still know what song it is! It makes working so much easier as you’re not distracted by a heavy base drop in the middle of your working day!

A good one to listen to is Melt – Acoustic by JONES

WFH (working from home) can be both good and bad, I just hope that listening to these tunes will make you working day a lot better 😊 The songs on this article are just a small sample of the whole playlist, and I know you'll love every song! And remember, as well as listening to music to make your day better, make sure to stay hydrated and stay active!

Keep safe everyone, and enjoy the tunes!
