Anger Revisited

title track

I decided to take the title of a poem from my adolescent days for a lyrical rewrite...

These two words served as a reminder of how I dealt with undesirable situations as a teenager. Regardless of all the help, advice and direction I received, I still had to learn for myself what life meant to me...

I'm positive that every adult has contemplated the words 'If I knew then what I know now'.

The keyword in this self-reflective phrase is the word 'know'. We constantly learn about things growing up. Some of those things remain held in theory until you actually experience them. You can watch a swimmer swimming and imagine what it's like. But it's not until you learn how to swim that you will 'Know' the exhilaration of being in a weightless environment.

The point to all this is how I came to terms with self-control. Anger, the untamed beast, visited me quite often between ages 14-17, during those coming-of-age times when we think we know it all.

I never lashed out at anyone and barely expressed anger in front of others. Instead, I took it out by writing twisted poems. It was the perfect release when things didn't go my way. By dredging words out of my brain to pinpoint how I felt, it helped me understand the anger I was going through.

Please enjoy the track as you read. Thank you!

Anger Revisited

Starts with Chorus:

Anger sweet anger now, has risen in my blood. (You know, oh oh, oh oh)

You know, Anger sweet anger now, don't try to save the world. (oh oh oh)

Anger sweet anger now, my mind is black and blue. (You know, oh oh, oh oh)

You know, Anger sweet anger now, don't let this happen to you.

Verse:1

I try to---conceal my wicked ways.

I try to, hold you---but my heart it just won't stay.

Every time I---get this feeling in my mind

I try to warn you---just let me go away and hide. (hide)

Verse 2:

I cannot --- even go to work today.

I might kill someone --- make this all go away.

My eye head hurts --- from these incarcerated lies.

Will I ever get my --- my fifteen minutes while I'm alive?

Chorus:

Because Anger sweet anger now, has risen in my blood (you know, oh oh, oh oh)

You know, Anger sweet anger now, don't try to save the world (oh oh oh--- oh oh oh)

Anger sweet anger now, my mind is black and blue (you know, oh oh, oh oh)

You know, Anger sweet anger now, don't let this happen to you.

Verse: 3

Don't ever let it get a hold of you-

you'll regret it in the end...

If it ever gets control of you-

please don't spread it to your friends...

If it becomes a part of you-

say a prayer every day...

If it becomes the heart of you-

It's up to you, to turn and walk away.

Bridge:

Anger, doesn't start with a stranger,

it starts with you, putting lives in danger.

The things that I, can describe...

will never make sense to civilized eyes.

Self-control, is on hold,

until you learn to relax and break the mold.

You can't have cake and eat it too,

when the life you live is all about a fool.

Chorus:

Anger sweet anger now, has risen in my blood (you know, oh oh, oh oh)

You know, Anger sweet anger now, don't try to save the world (oh oh oh---oh oh oh)

Anger sweet anger now, my mind is black and blue (you know, oh oh, oh oh)

You know, Anger sweet anger now, don't let this happen to you.

This is brilliant! 🤩I love the song, lyrics & tune…💖 it’s a #1 hit… just needs to be released onto the music scene. It sounds like Ben Barnes!😊Amazing job.👍🏼

  • Great job, Lamar!!! Great lyrics. You should do more! Love the guitar sounds!

Relatable to a degree except I think I am still still processing mine at times I think. Yet, new day like you said. 😊 Great song and theme too, but this line before your lyrics stood out to me a lot Lamar, “By dredging words out of my brain to pinpoint how I felt, it helped me understand the anger I was going through.” I like that! And glad you found your way through.

Great lyrics, Lamar! I’m going have to come back to listen to the track soon when I’m in an appropriate listening space, curious to see if the way I imagined it in my head is even in the ballpark

Some amazing lyricism on n display here, really using those poetry chops. The incarcerated lies line was particularly good. Music feels kinda like a blues jazz fusion, I can imagine Billie Holiday making this her own back in the day

Well-wrought! Wrath comes from fire, and is like a welding torch. Its applications are very limited. If we can channel it calmly to just those rare moments when it is absolutley needed, then we can use it for what it's for: motivation. We don't weld steel together and then turn the torch on ourselves or others. We reinforce the steel to reinforce our selves and protect others, eh? We wear protection so it doesn't blind us when we use it, and when we're done, we put the torch away! Great song, Lamar! I lost (sometimes intentionally) more notebooks full of teen angst than I've probably written in since, so this definitely resonates!

  • I have anger issues and am very impulsive. But I'm trying to keep it under control. This music is so catchy that it's still running in my mind although the song is over. I absolutely loved your lyrics!

  • I always tried to isolate myself when I felt this way, going on long walks to hash it out with God where no one else could hear, going over it again & again before I could realize how foolish I was being. Love the song. If I'd had this, maybe I could have sung my way through, lol.

Lamar - this was excellent! And I guess I’d never really thought about anger starting with yourself rather than a stranger. Sometimes it’s easier to blame ‘situations’ rather than looking at yourself. Well done and good luck!

  • Awesome indeed, Lamar. And you're absolutely right...or write. Sometimes it's taking it outside that will give us the right perspective.

Awesome, Lamar! Loved the hip hop vibe! Did you suggest that Suno add the jazzy slide guitar riffs or did it do that on its own? Great entry to the challenge!
