An Unforgettable Teen Idol
The music of David Cassidy

David Cassidy did what most American teen boys would like to do. He became a teen idol and had thousands of teenage girls madly in love with him. However, becoming a teen idol is a big responsibility because you can get so caught up in all of the madness that you lose a sense of who you really are. Another thing that makes teen idols vulnerable is that all of their popularity can disappear as quickly as it began. David Cassidy had his day in the sun but as all teenage boys do, he grew up and even though he tried to stay popular and talented he never achieved the stardom of other rockers such as Billy Joel or Bruce Springsteen. That is a hard thing to accept and David Cassidy took it so hard that he turned to alcoholism.

The Partridge Family
Cassidy gained popularity and became a teen idol when he got the part of Keith Partridge in the TV show The Partridge Family. The show was about a not-so-typical American family consisting of a divorced mother with a teenage son and daughter and two smaller children. She and her children started playing pop music and became a popular singing band traveling in a bus to concerts. You have to admit that this is not what happens to most families. Soon it was obvious that fans would not accept this as only a TV show and The Partridge Family became a popular pop music group, Cassidy rose to stardom as a teen idol and the group even recorded and released record albums.
Singing Solo
David Cassidy was quick to grab onto the golden ring of popularity and as soon as The Partridge Family scored big with their first hit “I Think I Love You” Cassidy also released his first solo album Cherish with the title song becoming a bit hit for him. The Partridge Family albums sold more than a million copies each in the U.S. and all over the globe. David Cassidy stood out from the rest and when his solo career took off he also started touring.
