Nikola Tesla, a towering figure in the annals of science and engineering, was born on July 10, 1856, in the village of Smiljan, which was then part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and is now located in present-day Croatia. Raised in a family of Serbian heritage, Tesla's upbringing was deeply influenced by his father, Milutin Tesla, who was a Serbian Orthodox priest, and his mother, Georgina Tesla, who managed the family's household affairs.
