Velupillai Prabhakaran: The life story of a Tiger Velupillai Prabhakaran was born in the forested hills of Sri Lanka in 1951. He was the son of a Tiger hunter and grew up surrounded by the animals of the jungle. As a child, he was fascinated by the power, grace, and mystique of the big cats. When he was just 16 years old, he tracked and killed his first tiger. From then on, Prabhakaran was devoted to the sport and practice of tiger hunting. Over the course of his career, he became one of the world's most renowned and successful hunters of big cats. In 1993, he was convicted of the murders of 13 people, including two American tourists. He was sentenced to death and spent the next 17 years on death row. In 2009, he was pardoned by the Sri Lankan president and released from prison. Today, Prabhakaran lives in exile in the jungles of India, where he continues to pursue his passion for hunting big cats.
