The Unspoken truths
By: Tonya McLean Video games have been a part of our culture for decades; the industry as a whole is over 70 years old. The first game was created in 1958. Most games have been claimed to take place in the world of fiction or fantasy others based on real things like Sports or Simulations. For years this claim has given parents no reason to believe that games wouldn’t have real life facts included in them. However, what the parents didn’t realize is that even though games are based in the world of fantasy and fiction that fact was mostly for the story, not the actions that took place in the game; sometimes the story has real life in it as well. For example, the Legend of Zelda series back story is that the world was created from 3 goddesses each represented by a triangle. There are parallels to religion and under those beliefs how the world was created. In the first of the Tomb Raider remake series the team gets stranded on an island in the Dragon’s Triangle in Japan and there really is a Dragon’s Triangle in Japan. The survival strategies in all three of those games are real life facts as well. There’s one fact that expands all video games. That fact is that the player needs determination and problem solving skills in order to beat the game. Such characteristics and skills are needed in order to make it in life.

Tonya's Sickle Cell Diaries
I am 3 days away from my delivery date. At that time I will be able to see and hold my own daughter, something that I thought was impossible for my life just a few years ago. It has me thinking back to when I was a child. I was born with Sickle Cell Anemia. Most people today call it Sickle Cell Disease. I have always looked at the difference as the difference between the two types of Sickle Cell. Type Sc(recessive) and type SS(dominate). So if Sickle Cell Disease means that you had the recessive type, and Sickle Cell Anemia meant you had the dominant type. At least that’s how my child mind perceived it. Now I know that the 'Anemia' part means that on top of having Sickle Cell I am anemic too.

Taken
Taken Part 1 By: Tonya McLean Intro She slowly opened her eyes as she felt how cold the room was; the room was very nippy. She quickly pulled up the covers to her chin. Slowly turning to check her phone for the time. Her phone was on its charger stand, she swiped it and when the screen lit up; It read 7:45, she felt a little bit shocked since she never wakes up before her alarm. She took a deep breath and tried to get back to sleep. She thought that it was pointless since it takes her an hour to get back to sleep and she only had thirty minutes.
