Everything You Need To Know From The Tie-In Comics Before Seeing 'Doctor Strange'
Doctor Strange is the 14th movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but in many ways it's a fresh start. Unlike Captain America: Civil War, you don't need to be 100% up-to-speed with the wider MCU in order to recognize the characters and appreciate the plot. Doctor Strange introduces viewers to a whole new aspect of the MCU, and in so doing it takes a small step away from the wider shared universe. Don't get me wrong; the eagle-eyed viewer will spot a few gentle continuity nods, but the truth is that Doctor Strange stands on its own two feet.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was controversial before it even hit the big screen. There were times when it really seemed as though DC Film couldn't win - every decision, from the casting of Ben Affleck to the revelation of Doomsday in the trailers, was criticized on social media. When the film was finally released, it was to a perfect storm of poor reviews and mixed fan reactions. Worse still, at least initially the DC Extended Universe seemed doomed to continue along this controversial road; Zack Snyder's continued prominence, given the mixed reception for both Man of Steel and #BatmanVSuperman, guaranteed more of the same.

Rogue One finally gave us the complete history of the Death Star — and we learned that, understandably, Alderaan wasn't the first target of the superweapon's wrath. It didn't take long for Rogue One to give us a glimpse of the battle station's power, as Moff Tarkin had the superlaser destroy the Holy City of Jedha. But given Imperial forces had completely abandoned the planet, one question has to be asked: Why did Tarkin only destroy a city? Why didn't he destroy the whole planet?
