The Desert Circuit
My red and black dune buggy swerved mercilessly along the bumpy desert sand. I tightened my grip on the steering wheel, striving to regain control and straighten its wayward path. It wasn't long until I got my buggy back under control, speeding up again as I watched the sand fly up into the sky. In one swift motion, I took my gloved left hand off the wheel, quickly adjusting my full-face helmet that had been jostled around.

Undead Weekend
“In the shadow’s embrace, where stone meets bone, we resurrect the forgotten, the lost, the unknown. Through moonlit incantations, we call back the departed, breathing life into their slumber, with power uncharted,” the five girls chanted in the middle of a moonlit cemetery.

Whiskey, Jazz, and Danger
Dear recipient of this letter, I pen these words in great urgency, for I find myself embarking on a hasty escape. My name is Timothy P. Morrie, and I am compelled to flee. Seven years have passed since the enactment of the 18th Amendment in 1920, which outlawed the production, importation, transportation, and sale of alcoholic beverages. As a rising figure in the world of organized crime here in the underground realm of “The Big Easy,” I skillfully gathered enough dough through a combination of persuasive tactics, crafty charm, and the occasional subtle reminder of the consequences for noncompliance. Through a prior favor owed to me by a confectionery shop owner, I swiftly secured the use of his basement to establish my own secret drinking establishment, known as a speakeasy.

A Boy with Monsters
Niko scanned the dimly lit dining room where his relatives had gathered. They all sang “Happy Birthday” slightly off-key as his dad brought over a cake shaped like a baseball with two flickering candles on top. Niko’s gaze fixated on the wax candles shaped into the numbers one and three, their flames dancing with a gentle breeze. When the song ended, and the cake was placed before him, Niko closed his eyes and extinguished the two candles with a single breath. Smoke swirled around him as his family erupted in cheers and applause.

Poolside Prophecies. Runner-Up in Word Hunt Challenge.
The campus pool area vibrated with music from the wall-mounted speakers. It had been rented for the day by a few fraternities and sororities, marking the end of exams and the beginning of summer with a lively party. College students of all ages filled the space, surrounded by simple decorations strewn across the room. In one corner, a special attraction beckoned attendees—an elegantly dressed fortune teller stationed at a circular table. Cloaked in maroon linen, the table showcased a lavender-colored crystal ball, as she read palms and revealed insights with tarot cards.

The Masked Thief
He dashed along the busy sidewalk, deftly maneuvering through the bustling city crowd. With a black mask adorning his face, he managed to blend in, unnoticed among the passers-by. The Trunk
The eyesore loomed before me, motionless and perched in front of my husband’s office desk. Whenever he left the door to his home office ajar, it would mock me with its garish colors that clashed with our home’s aesthetic. However, I refrained from asking him to part with it, aware of how much he cherished the object. Still, I couldn’t help but wonder what lay inside. Over our thirteen years together, he never once revealed the contents of the trunk. He always claimed it held mere memorabilia from his youth and early twenties. My curiosity gnawed at me, longing to uncover its secrets. Yet, I dared not peek, as doing so would betray my husband’s trust and invade his privacy.

Music to My Ears
During my childhood, I was fortunate to be exposed to a wide range of music genres thanks to my family and friends. As a young kid, I found myself drawn to pop music, boy bands, and anything that made it onto the Top 100 charts. However, as my teenage years approached, I began developing a deep appreciation for hard rock, a passion that has stayed with me through the years. Creating a playlist of songs that have profoundly influenced my life is no easy task, but I believe I can narrow it down to seven songs, including the album that played a significant role in inspiring me to finish my first novel. So, without any particular order, let's dive into my top picks.
