He won a bronze medal in the 1952 Helsinki Olympics in the men's bantamweight category, becoming the first Indian to win an individual medal at the Olympics in a field event. He was also the first Indian to win an Olympic medal in wrestling. Jadhav was born in a poor family in a small village in India and had to overcome many obstacles to achieve his success.
