On a chic couch, Chanda and Go unraveled the two patches from a satchel. The patches glowed with electricity and showed the digital amount of heroin that was supposed to flow through their veins. They uncased each of the patches and applied them to the other’s arm. An electronic device showed their blood pressure, and other vitals along with the amount of heroin injected in their arms. Within seconds, The drug had coursed through their bodies and they lay limp, basking in the silence of it all.

Go looked out of his window. He then left his house and he peered upward at the moon using his highly advanced telescope. The glowing orb, because of its reflection of the sun's rays, excited him. They took him away in a sense, then brought him back to reality, all in a swift motion. He knew he could only contain himself by breathing in a regulated way. The knowledge of the lunar landings and this future trip to Mars invigorated his senses.

The chip to be inserted in the brain to offer anatomical, biological, and neurological statistics among other functions, had been a thought in Belinda’s head while she built her company. Her learned machines fared well with the experiment. This was after thousands of hours of practice and failure and restarting and finally getting it right. This took fifteen years. As the machines could check their own battery capacity and have in their wheelhouse data that would be able to be relayed back to humans at computers, Belinda rejoiced at the idea of her creations keeping them. Then, she felt the twinge of ideation. She wondered if these can be implanted in humans.

Beads of sweat congregated at Belinda’s temples like so many eagles in a convocation. It was five o’clock in the morning as she ran through what was once thought of as Wilmington, Delaware. The chip in her brain allowed her to get a lightning response to the conditions of her body from her heart rate to her hydration levels. She paused to sip an electrolyte rich beverage. A call came through.

Nervous energy surged in Hayden Beckman’s apartment. He took to his mobile device to devise a first draft of his speech for President Goshen. He felt swamped. Numerous deadlines hung over his head like a thousand blazing suns. His parents had been begging him to find a nice girl to marry and pushed him to go out to start a family. His school bills mounted. His mind swirled. He stopped editing his speech. He phoned Dr. Strong.

Crackles from the fire made the room not just sound like warmth but the reason why there existed such sounds motivated Dr. Strong and Beckman. They shared premium cognac in the former’s cozy smoking den. Fat cigars that had been rolled to perfection in Miami and shipped up North now emitted smoke.

His email flooded. Thousands of notes came to Goshen’s inbox. He could count all of them, read all of them, and answer but a few. Everyone, it seemed, wanted to talk about the nation of Colombia finally fully legalizing all drugs, including its most profitable crop, cocaine. This watershed moment led the president of Smartystan to draft a message to his fellow Smarties. His country-state had made every drug licit with the only regulation on age which began at seventeen. A consumption tax remained the only payment for governmental services attached to the substances.

At the skateboard shop, Go continued to tool and retool his hardware. The decks had to be polished and the trucks had to be affixed to them. Hardly anyone treated him like he was a billionaire Founder. Instead, they saw him as someone who could be on whatever level of income as the next man. He didn’t deny his money, but he most certainly did in no way display that he earned a fortune.
