The Bad Flame
I've always been the one who wears pain like a second skin, staining everything I touch, spreading the misery around like a plague to the innocent victims who only ever wanted to love me. But they say time heals all wounds. That the pain is supposed to wear off in between early work meetings and late night conversations with temporary agony relievers. No one ever tells you the pain doesn't stop until you hit rock bottom. You were my rock bottom. And I still ended up hurting you. I've spent the last ten years trying to be something else besides a bad decision, and seeing you here tonight, that's when I knew. I've only ever wanted to be yours.

The Healer
Every so often I stumble across a lost soul in my line of work. A torn being breaking at the seams, physically and mentally. I've grown and used my herbs, oils and spices to heal the sick and the defeated for what seems like an eternity. But never have I encountered a person as enigmatic as you. I've seen a lot. Felt a lot too. The recognition of energy around someone's essence is somewhat of a specialty for me and even before you entered my home, the consumption of your desperation washed over me. My lungs were on fire the moment I opened the door for you, and so was the rest of my body when you instantly realized a spark had been lit the second our eyes connected.

Embers: Chapter 12
ZANDER The board full of signing sheets for the junior class was in disarray. Covered in signatures for sports and drama, art and music electives and other after school activities. I was having a slight crisis of indecision, wondering if it was a good idea to sign up for the track team this year. Zach and I would be starting work with Dad next week anyway. I wouldn't have the time or energy for school work, regular work and track too. I guess I could talk to Dad about it after school. Maybe he'd fire me and I could actually do something other than tune ups and tire rotations this time around. I didn't mind helping him out. Bonding over cars was a frequent past time for Dad and I. I just wanted something for myself for once. Something I didn't have to share with my brother.

Dirty Love
I took a bite from the most forbidden fruit and choked on happiness the moment you let me kiss you. Years have gone by painfully slow since then, but you stayed with me. You clung to my lungs like cancerous cells that would kill me faster if I ever tried to remove them. So I held onto your memory as well; in my morning coffee, in every smile I give to a beautiful brunette with a smirk just as lethal as yours used to be. I carry your name on my tongue whenever it's inside another woman's slick folds, when my cock is so desperate to forget how good you felt, that it fucks whoever it can just to numb the pain.

Ruin
I think I still make you nervous. Palms sweaty, pulse racing against your burning skin. Your eyes watch me carefully from across the room. They've been undressing me from the moment I stepped foot inside your apartment. I'd be lying if I said I didn't expect you to open your door for me. I knew you would. I'm the only person you'd ever leave the door open for. Even with a knife in my hand and a murderous gaze hiding behind my true intent, your addiction to me has always been stronger than your logic.

Embers (Ch. 11)
ZACH "You're dating Rhiannon too?" Thea asked teasingly with a raised eyebrow as my brother brought the car to life and she buckled up. Rhiannon pretty much invited herself over after school and her smile was too exhilarating to turn down so I had agreed. I'd given her the tour of my family's home and we finished with some light studying before her natural sensuality began to take over and I had to excuse myself with a false claim of needing some water. My brother had been in the vicinity unfortunately and witnessed the whole thing. He decided to take it upon himself to rescue me out of Rhiannon's web of desire and distracted her with his matching charm. And who was I kidding? I could never compete with this over-sexualized generation I belonged to. I was still a virgin, my brother as well as far as I knew, but no one believed him enough to buy it.
