Baskets Change Everything
A year ago I moved across the country with my wife and daughter. I boxed up everything we loved to ship across this big beautiful land and gave everything else away. So You Didn't Win the Little Black Book Challenge
I'm going to take a moment to untangle myself from this blanket and write a shout-out to my posse, the writers who did not win Vocal's Little Black Book Challenge. Sure the down payment on a house will have to wait, but there's gotta be something good that comes out of this, right? Something more than the 87 cents I made off the views for my story. When we signed up to Vocal, we joined a community, so we don't have to go through this alone. Let's lick our wounds together.

Wading Through Memories
I found her crouched down in the milkweed, covered in dirt. I knew she’d be in her garden. Sitting in the house lets the pain set in, with too many memories embellishing the walls and piled-up bills sprawling across the countertop. It’s only been a month and a busy one at that. She hasn't had a whole lot of peace between visits from neighbors and concerned family, and the house is full of flowers - flowers that are dying. When you’re ready to sink into misery, inside the house is a good place to go, but the outside offers transformation. I take a knee beside her and look up at the bottom of the leaf she’s exploring.
