Movie Review: 'Devil's Night: Dawn of the Nain Rouge'
Trying to bring order to the chaos of Devil’s Night: The Dawn of Nain Rouge is an exhausting task. I am merely being hyperbolic here, but I may actually put more work into sorting out this ludicrous plot than anyone actually involved in the making of Devil’s Night: The Dawn of Nain Rouge. Based around an urban legend in Detroit, with both Native American or, more honestly, racist, origins and supernatural origins, Devil’s Night: The Dawn of Nain Rouge is distilled chaos.

Movie Review: The Wretched is a Sloppy Horror Mess
The opening scenes of The Wretched follow a teenager arriving at a suburban home for a babysitting job. When she arrives, the home is eerily quiet. She calls her mother and establishes a casual tone. That’s interrupted by a strange noise in the basement. The unnamed babysitter goes to investigate.

Establishing the Corkscrew: Visual Film-making in 'The Wretched'
In the new horror movie, The Wretched, there is a scene in which directors, Brett and Drew Pierce, have a scene featuring a corkscrew. This corkscrew will have no significance in the long run. Our antagonist, that we will simply refer to as ‘Wretched,’ has taken the form of one of our protagonists. Wretched is using this female form to deceive another character and enact an enchantment upon them.

Movie Review: 'The Other Lamb' is a Stunner
The appeal of The Other Lamb is difficult to describe. This unique drama from Polish director Malgorzata Szumowska doesn’t fit any traditional genre description. The film is defiantly non-traditional in presenting a story that relies heavily upon visual cues and mystique. The Other Lamb is unquestionably brilliant and yet nebulous.

Movie Review: 'Verotika' is Wildly Terrible
What to make of the directorial debut of rocker Glen Danzig? The Mother singer has made a movie that is either one of hell of a comic troll job or an Ed Wood level, earnest abomination. Verotika is a three part anthology movie featuring three stories loosely tied together by a nonsensical interstitial storyteller who may be a vampire or a demon or The Devil? That’s where the bizarre, confounding journey of Verotika begins.

Movie Review: 'Fantasy Island'is Corporatized Horror Trash
Fantasy Island is a tedious attempt at reviving familiar I.P with a ‘twist.’ What if we take a forgettable 1970’s TV show and make it a horror movie? Clever? The result certainly is not clever or interesting. Rather, the remake of Fantasy Island as a Blumhouse horror movie with a sub-B-List cast reeks of corporate interference and of a director who is more hack than actual director, only capable of forgettably transmitting corporate dictates into a bland screen product.

Movie Review: 'The Lodge'
The Lodge gets off to a stunning start and rarely lets up on the oppressive atmosphere and that’s what makes it so brilliant. The Lodge stars Riley Keough as Grace. As a child, Grace was the lone survivor of a doomsday cult, run by her eccentric, Preacher, Father, which committed mass suicide. It appears, though Grace dressed up for the ritual, including Duct Tape across her mouth with the word ‘Sin’ written on it, that Grace was the designated survivor.

Movie Review: 'Get Gone'
Get Gone features modern horror icon Lin Shaye as the matriarch of a family of murderers. Mama, as Shaye's character is called, once found herself visiting the woods and deciding to stay after meeting a Fish and Game Ranger named Don Maxwell (Robert Miano). It's vaguely implied that Mama was kidnapped but the movie doesn't linger on this point.

Movie Review: 'Happy Death Day 2 U' A Solid Follow Up to Clever Original
Happy Death Day was a breath of fresh, comic, air in the horror genre in 2017 and because it was a financial success, as well as a critical success, we knew a sequel was coming. That sequel arrived two years later under the title Happy Death Day 2U. The cast returns with Jessica Rothe back in the lead role as Tree Gelbman, a woman who survived being trapped in a deathly time loop.

Movie Review: 'A.M.I' Is Better than 'Jexi'
I can say this for the new phone based slasher movie A.M.I: It's better than the equally phone obsessed nationwide theatrical release, Jexi. A.M.I is a courageous, artistically limited new horror movie that recently debuted on Netflix, timed to coincide, I assume, with the release of the Adam Devine comedy Jexi. Both films are about young people whose phone is related to their parental issues.

Movie Review: 'Artik' is Another Good Shocker from Dread Central
There is something both old school and incredibly modern about Artik, the latest low-budget horror surprise from the good folks at Dread Central. The film posits a serial killer with influences that reflect both comic books and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. It's a strange, off-kilter mix of influences anchored by lead performances that bring those influences to bear.

Movie Review: 'Ready or Not' Is One of the Best Surprises of 2019
Ready or Not stars Samara Weaving as Grace, a soon to be married woman. Grace is marrying Alex (Mark O'Brien) and marrying into Alex's incredibly rich family, the Le Domas family. The Le Domas Family are an odd group of gin soaked alpha males and domineering women who do not welcome outsiders with ease.
